First Round After Time Off

I have only played one round since July and it was a month ago with two of my grandkids so it was definitely a casual, non-posted round. I finally got back into league play today and put several extra balls in my bag just in case I did something stupid. First hole was a short par 3 that I sunk a 20 birdie putt, and then I clawed my way around the course for a 79.  I was expecting the worst, but I was surprised that I was able to stay out of trouble all day. My tempo was definitely off and I the biggest thing I noticed was a big drop off in distance.

 

Sometimes when I start developing bad habits I'll take a week or two off and usually come back playing better. But this was 4 months off - the longest gap I've had since 2009. Have to say I surprised myself.  Hopefully I'll get back to my old yardages.

 

Thats it. Just wanted to share and WRX is the only place people understand these things.

Living in NY, I have to take a 4-5 month break every year. Sometimes I come right out of the gate and shoot well, other years it seems like it takes 4-5 rounds to find a groove.

Seems like the consensus here is that taking a break you play better after coming back. I find it that when I take a break I will swing differently while keeping the ingrained fundamentals still intact.  This is one activity where I over think things unlike fishing or tennis and that is why I get myself into trouble. I have taken a "break" for 4 years and have finally got the itch to play again and I am still struggling to find my swing. As the OP mentioned tempo is what i'm trying to find but it seems like I want to kill the ball instead. It will come back to me. Carry on.
