I went to the Tour Championship today and saw what looked like a real dust up between Charley Hull and Jodi Ewart Shadoff. I didn't follow that group, but towards the later part of the afternoon we found a spot about 100yards from the green on the 18th hole.

Shadoff's ball went into the hazard and she and her caddy looked like they were trying to locate it. Charley had hit a longish drive into the narrow part of the fairway in good position, a good 20-30 yards past Shaddoff's drop. Instead of waiting for Jodi the away player to hit her shot, Charley quickly went into her routine while Jodi and caddy were looking for Jodi's ball. Charley addressed the ball, then looked over her shoulder at Jodi getting ready to drop and going through her yardage book and Charley backed off her ball. She immediately went BACK into her pre-shot routine, addressed the ball, then stepped away and appeared to snap at her caddie. Shadoff looked like she had dropped and was ready to go. Charley immediately went through her routine and hit a mediocre shot.

Charley then threw her club a good 10 yards and began marching down the fairway while Jodi was hitting her shot. Charley stopped about 50 yards from the green and kind of stomped back to her caddy. Jodi hit a good shot inside of 10 feet and made the par save. When both players were finished with the hole and the round, there was no typical hug, just fist bumps but when it cam time for Charley and Jodi to fist bump, Charley kind of punched Jodi's had away.

I don't know if this incident is what set Charley off or if something had happened earlier in the round. Did anyone else see what happened between the two of them? Was there an earlier incident? I've never seen anyone act like this at an LPGA event. I've watched both of them  at LPGA events both on course and on the range but I've never followed either very closely. Are either Charley or Jodi or both typically volatile?

I was really surprised by what I saw.

Is she known that way? She seems to be  becoming much more obsessed with the diva ways as she gets older. That is coming from an outside view of her social media.

Do tell... Like she won't play unless she has a dozen white roses in her dressing room, will only drink thrice filtered water from the Arctic Circle....that kind of thing?

Let's just say they call her "Posh".  Those of you in the UK know that is a compliment inside posh circles and an insult from normal people.  In the US we would use the word "spoiled".

She's not really posh though, is she?

No one who is truly “posh”(elegant, sophisticated, gracious, cultured) would ever use that word. It’s like when people say someone is classy. That is probably the worst word to use.

Absolutely right, she is not. I like her but she looks, dresses and speaks more like someone’s moll than a sophisticated aristocrat.

Sensational - don't hold back there🤣

My group yesterday was Pornanong (introduced herself as Waen), and Masson. We were 2nd group off and it was brutally cold and windy (for Naples). Comfort level on 2nd nine was perfect. Waen had a triple on 2nd hole and never really recovered. Many looks at birdie but putter wasn't working. She consistently outdrove Masson. Could be because of Masson's current (PG) condition. Husband Jason followed her for 3 holes before duty called😊 He is a stud.

Today I have Amy Yang and Sophia S. (I think). We shall see when I get to the course. That will be it for me as I have to go to work in Orlando Sat/Sun. Husband will be working on Sunday, however.

Tell Sophia "Hook 'Em" for me.

Yes.  One of them has a temper and the diva attitude to go with it.  And it's not Jodi................

Jodi didn't seem fazed by Charley's act. She just went about her business, hit a good approach shot and drained the putt to save par. I couldn't see her reaction to Charley smacking her hand away at the end. I'm curious if something happened before that situation on the 18th fairway. Charley was just downright rude. I say this as someone who admires Charley's game. She really impressed me when she was a young girl playing in the Solheim Cup. I've been a fan ever since.

Another interesting point was players' decisions on the 18th tee. We were about 100 yards from the middle of the green, so we couldn't see club choice, but we could see where they put their ball.  Most players had their drives between 150 yards down to maybe 125 yards Charley and a few others). At 125 yards the fairway narrows quite a bit with a lake on the left. A few players hit drives a bit left and long and went into the hazard. Madeleine Sagstrom, HJ Kim iirc, Jodi, and a few others. The players who put their balls in that 125-150 range had little trouble hitting the green.  What I found fascinating was a couple of longer hitters: Brooke Henderson and Lexi Thompson laid up well back. I don't remember how far Lexi had, but I'd guess she must have been around 175-180 out. Brooke left herself well over 200 yards in - likely around 220. It was no problem for her.

No, no...... "posh" may have meant sophisticated in the 1950s in the UK, but in 2020 it's degenerated into a bit of a brush-off. Like "Oh, she's a bit posh" would mean has some money but not much breeding, hangs out with rich people, dresses up for the part. Kind of middle class makes good with more attitude than brains. We use "Essex" for the showy, flashy but basically middle class female and "Chelsea" for those with actual breeding, who clog up the roads in their "Chelsea tractors" (4x4s) which they can't drive in reverse. Particularly bad when they pick up their precious daughters at 4.30pm and swear at each other when they can't go forwards or backwards. Their kids are called Savannah and Chardonnay.

No.... nobody with any class would want to be called "posh" these days.

To get respect these days you have to be a doctor for most people, or at least a nurse. Or a climate activist for anybody with brains and vision.

Lydia's new buzz word is "consistency" in her interviews - quite a change from the Lydia that fired caddies years ago. Sounds to me like classic Sport Psychology. Two of the cornerstones of that are "trust your coach, trust your routine". So coach and player work together on refining a constant pre-shot routine, like you see in athletes, tennis players and the like. Ivan Lendl always bounced his ball 4 times. High jumpers have very stylised pre-jump routines. That kind of thing. It's somewhere between a placebo effect and an aid to focus and concentration.

So now Lydia has well-established pre-shot routines, and yes - looks like it works. It should do because it's designed to work. She trusts her routines and it's paying dividends this season.

Still don't get that preshot lifting of the club to the outside. When she starts her swing it's still coming back on the inside.

I would say it's to keep her arms from becoming stuck, a reminder that the arms move slightly out from the body as she turns into the backswing

Nasa trying to catch the Artemis 1 capsule. Lol. Seven under through 14 holes. Yikes.

Lydia off to a slow start, but the back nine is more scoreable. Definitely bunched up at the top.

It is a feel for players that were too far inside-out.  More of a hand flex thing than anything else.  You will see Jordan Spieth doing the same pre-shot as he tries to remind himself not to come inside the ball too quickly.

That move is a counter to what some instructors call the "Better players shank".  That shank is normally predicated by a stretch of overdrawing the ball then the dreaded Chili Pepper shows up.

Looks like much tougher conditions out there today.

Nasa came back to Earth, and Lydia starting to separate herself from the chasers.
