Thought on compression of ball in cold weather? Should you change

I am interested for other that play golf near freezing do you change golf balls? I have be messing around with ball that compresses more and spins more in the winter and this seems to perform ball the my standard, low compression ball. Is it the ball, or is it my swing is slower in the winter, when I am not as loose and wearing layers.

Changing to a lower compression ball will not make up for the fact that cold air is more dense than warm air, so the ball flies shorter in the cold, and you are going to be less flexible due to the cold and probably bundled up as well, restricting your swing even more.  If playing a lower compression ball in the winter helps you out mentally, then do it, but it isn't going to magically make you hit the ball your normal distances.

I used to switch out to a lower compression ball, but noticed that the distance was shorter with my driver than it was with the normal ball that I use.  It was the Project A/Tour Response compared to the TP5.  I hit drives on the same hole and there was a difference in distance between them for me to not go back and forth anymore.

Yes, mainly for feel.

 

Part of the game is being able to adjust for weather, case in point yesterday's round, it was 40* where the previous week it was 82*....one of our newer group members kept coming up way short and wondering why

I personally change balls in Nova Scotia once Oct comes. I use ProV1X from April until Oct then switch to Srixon soft feel. It gets cold up here some days in Oct and now Nov, softer ball feels better to me.

I am not look for any magic - just looking for the optimal set up

I found iron travel further and higher with the much soft ball (way more spin) and driver traveling not as far.

I found iron travel further and higher with the much soft ball (way more spin) and driver traveling not as far. 

I didn’t notice much difference between the balls when it came to iron and wedge distances. The main difference for me was distance with the driver.
