Tall-er guys and putter length. Talk to me !

6'3", 34" inseam, 37" arms.  Fitters put me in +1" to +1 1/4" irons for years.  Then I read an article by Jack where he said a guy my height should play under +1". Finally comfortably got down to +1/2".  Still works.  Putter has stayed at 34" to 34.5" depending on the stick.  23 years ago switched from the Pelz method to Tiger's putter and his technique, especially the pre-shot routine.  Took 4 months of practice before I could again sink tough putts. Learn from the best in the world and have a completely relaxed natural stance and in that we are all different regardless of height factors.  But, to me, like landing a plane, putting is about feel, not conscious manipulations or even which plane you are flying or which stick you use on the green.

Wondering how putter length relates to your pw length ?     Specifically 6-0 to 6-4 ish guys.      Also wonder age.

im working on a hunch.  And that hunch is.  That putter length should be close to wedge length assuming you don’t have a super hunched over putting stance .  And that length may increase for age due to posture change  because of flexibility etc. afterall. Reaching the ball is reaching the ball. Yes ?

not making a statement. I’m just curious how many tall guys have over length   irons and above 35 inch putters?  Or does it not correlate?

imho - Putter length should fit your stance, and your stance needs to fit your eyes. Getting your eyes into a position where your brain "believes" the line will stop it from subconsciously trying to push\pull the putt back into the line it "believes".

So for me, I realized I have to have my eyes on the outside of the putt line in order to shut my brain off. For me, at 6'2, this required me to bend significantly from the waist, and thus I play a putter at 33.5in (bought a ping adjustable length putter when going through this so I could change later, and never changed it later), and I built my putting stroke around this position. When I used Arccos, it had me at a +4 putting handicap fwiw. I will literally gamble with anyone on the putting green.

6'2", pw plays standard @35" and the putter is @34" and I grip down. I've tried longer and end up almost at the steel trying to fit my natural tendencies. Longer is a no go, tried my friends 36 and actually bottomed out behind the ball. THATS RIGHT, I CAN EVEN HIT A PUTT FAT.

I'm 6'0. Have back problems, and wanted to learn to play more upright for longevity so I can continue to play. I play a 40" edel, and i still tinker with it. I'm ordering a weight plug kit for the back end of the putter to hopefully make the head feel lighter because that is what I prefer. My irons when I get some coin are going to get extended 1-2" over standard. There's not a whole lot of info out there for longer clubs, so unfortunately a lot of it is trial and error. For me it makes the game more enjoyable because I cannot get comfortable over standard length clubs.

Kind of funny.  Just to follow up. ….. I’m 4 rounds in the last 2 weeks with a 34 incher and finally found the feel I was searching for. Knock on wood. I had gone to as much as 36.5.

comfort and feel is priority in my opinion.  Whatever spec that is.

Apparently Brad Faxon thinks your putter length should usually be within an inch of your wrist to floor length, with golf shoes on.

Yeah I saw that. Never equated the two before, but makes sense to me.

FWIW I used to be almost 6-4 but now at age 65 I seem to have settled at 6-2. Irons are stock 1971 hogan bounce soles, so pretty short by today's standards. The length I learned with, never really changed it.

WTF is 38 inches. Played 35-36 inch putters most my life, but have admired Faxon's posture so after viewing the video, ran out and found a 38 inch counter balanced putter. Haven't gone on a green yet but just putting on the practice mat it feels unreal, very solid and natural. And as Faxon said in the video, you can't practice for long all bent over. I sure agree with that. We'll see how much I can practice with the new model.

Going to give this putter an honest try this year.
