To me Bryson seems like the nerdy kid who stayed at home on weekends in high school and college reading physics books. I’ve said this same thing before when he had that girlfriend a few years back who looked like a porn star and was obviously in it for money, to be honest she was probably his first.
 

He now lives in a house with a bunch of college age dudes supporting them. Doesn’t surprise me he thought he could just eat a ton of crap and put on 50 pounds of muscle in a year. Most guys have that same thought process in high school, lol.

The truth that never changes is that you can push yourself to go beyond the physical limits. Doing so may result in benefits, in some cases, huge benefits. But there will always be a price to pay. Bryson just got the check and realized it was too costly. Tiger, OTOH, took out a balloon loan and said, “Bring it on.”

 

Regarding Musk, absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Props to Bryson for realizing he needed a change, and not doubling down on the bulking once he realized it was no longer working for him. A good life lesson for a lot of people.

I also think the fact that his father recently passed away from complications due to diabetes made him have a good hard long look at his lifestyle and his genetics and how that could impact his future health. I think he realizes that the things he does need to be good for the long term. It shows that he is becoming more mature.

Oh man, it's been a delight. I've been dunking on Ol' Musky for years, calling him out as an utter fraud (though it goes much deeper than even I thought). Got a Slack channel with a buncha my old nerd colleagues in it and after they've all started turning, I was like "Ah, sweet vindication."

 

I've seen so many non-tech people being all "It's just a website! Why does it take so many people to run a web site?!" and I'm like "Just stop talking right now." 

 

I'd suggest that's why you are an engineer and not a multi-billionaire who has created businesses that are changing the world.  Haters are gonna hate, and Musk will continue to create. Twitter  is going to be a massive multi-dimensional app when it is completed, and it will be a success.

I've said that for a while.  I have ADD myself.  

 

Dude just cannot accept that the game is "hit ball, find ball, hit ball again till in the hole."  He needs it to be more complicated to keep his mind busy.

 

 

(I am at work now, doing ISO stuff, listening to a podcast and typing out this response.  About every ten minutes I need to switch what I am working on to stay productive throughout the day.  I get a lot of stuff done but I bet it looks frantic to other people.  I have about 50-11 projects going on at home too.  Have an old Massey Ferguson tractor took apart, some raised garden beds in process, a 98 suburban with the interior ripped out and in process of restoring.  I am probably missing something.)

My wife has a degree in physics & math, minor in Spanish from a small private school while also playing college tennis. As if that wasn't hard enough, she graduated in 2 1/2 then decided to go get a degree in mechanical engineering.

Here's my day so far:  slept in, had a leisurely breakfast, made a killer espresso, answered a few emails, went and did my Thanksgiving shopping while the stores were empty, answered a few more emails, made a great sandwich, now I'm off to tee it up.

 

Guess how much money I made today?  Beats me!  I have no idea!  But by my standards of success, I'll guarantee you I'm having a much more successful Monday than I would be if I was Elon or Bob right now.

 

Here's some life advice, and tell you what, I won't even charge you for it:  True success is self-defined.  If you're defining other people's success (strangers on the internet no less!!) based on other people's money...well, you've already lost the game.

You seem to be quantifying Elon's success through metrics when it fits your argument, and a philosophical stoic when it does not. Elon (like him or not, I'm not a fan) is wildly successful in almost all of his endeavors. And a knee jerk reaction to the twitter downturn is not representative of anything other than drastic changes implemented by Elon. Give it time, it may still burn to the ground, but it'll take time to get any true measure of his changes. 

 

But we can agree, your success and my success look very different because of our values and experiences. I got up at 4 AM to workout and then go run my business, enjoy the golf.
