Iron Spin rate issue

Recommended Posts

Ok I've had my Garmin R10 for about a week now, been working with my 8 iron to dial in the LM. Anyway my numbers seem fairly accurate Carry 135ish total 140ish, that inline with on course as well. The problem I'm seeing is low Spin Rates, I'm getting anywhere from 3500-5400rpm for my 8i. That to me is too low 8i should be near 8000? Anyway I've put a Dot of Foil tape on my Ball but it just doesn't seem to make much of a difference. What is going on?

Indoor or outdoor?

R10 doesn't measure spin with less than 20m of ball flight. Also assuming you are using a strong lofted 8i there is no way you will spin it more than 5000 at your speed.

My setup is outdoor. So you saying then since the Avg 8i should have nearly 8000rpm of Spin a person should hit their 8i 170yds to spin it that much. That is basically what you're saying. And it's not true

Outdoor with 20m of ball flight or outdoor into a net? Into a net is the same as indoor.

The 8i  = 8000 spin is false for the majority of players. It is only true for high speed players with traditional lofts (40 degree 8i). Most game improvement 8i lofts now are similar to traditional 6 irons which would would give a high speed player 6000 expected spin. For lower speeds expect sub 5000 spin.

Well if that's correct then don't say the R10 is not accurate. 98% of My 8i is 4500-5500rpm. Which is dead on and so are my distances

Hmmm?

Your post questioned the accuracy of the R10... All I did was explain that your expectations for spin are not correct.

Yes but now that I've got it more dialed in it is so much more accurate. As you can see my spin went up quite a bit this morning same club same LM with foil dot on the ball. The only thing I don't like here is the launch and the height. Everything else looks spot on
