Something is cooking at Titleist

Retailers generally get fleeced ang get between 15-30% of their "cost." I'd be shocked if an OEM has a total of $50 in direct and indirect costs per wedge. Their overpayment to players or giveaways are totally optional and a wedge has little to no new R&D as most of that is pushed onto the manufacturing company to help with. I'd love to know exactly, but I'd bet a large OEM nets 80-100 per wedge. The more they sell, the cheaper everything gets as those expenses are spread across more products. I'd say a set of irons is similar as the old way of doing R&D is long gone and now mostly done by computer simulation to perfect materials, weights and manufacturing specs. Realistically, everything at this point is maximized and they are recycling old ideas to make them seem fresh.

The big question is have your scores decreased dramatically when you purchase new clubs? I'd say 80-90% of the time, the answer is no.

80-90? more like 99 lol

New irons from Titleist won't be in our hands until 9/2023

Release date aside. My only hope is that Titleist starts to improve the shapes of their short irons-specifically 8 iron, 9 iron, and PW. The short irons in their last 2 to 3 cycles of iron models (ie. T100) have started to trend towards “spoons.” These shorter blade lengths and tall/high heel areas transitioning into the hosel area are not attractive in my opinion, and unfortunately seems to be the direction most manufacturers are trending these days…

The place where they fleece the consumer is a little on wedges but massively on putters. There may be a couple hundred dollars in a driver but there is no way there is >$500 in a Cameron putter.

Very true. Based on some costs and what others here have documented, the cost to manufacture should be right around $50-75 each. Oh yeah....R&D....nope, Ping did that for him years ago.

I saw that Ryan Barath posted a photo of what looks like a 620 MB that has the muscle completely milled. My guess is that this is for one of their tour players and they have adopted the CNC milling process similar to what TaylorMade used on Tiger's irons to be able to replicate this club to the tightest of tolerances again. Does anyone else have any insight on these?

Could be metal stereo lithography rapid prototyping and those are the “layers” we are seeing. Model on the computer and “print”
