Tip weight diameter to glue?

Is it ok if a tip weight is say .335 glued into a .355 shaft? Or how do you keep it tight in there if its all you have at the time, or would that come loose?

Tip weights for .335 shafts, I assume we are talking graphite, have a post that goes into the the shaft compared to tip weights that go into an iron which have a much wider outside diameter.

 

Do you have a picture or link of the weight in question?

Sorry actually its a steel iron shaft .355 but the tip weight that i was using was from the previous broken shaft and it was loose in the end of the .355 shaft so i decided not to use it, i wasnt sure if it would be ok or not

Yes.   It's best if the flange is still big enough to prevent it from being able to enter fully into the ID of the shaft.   The other option is that a lead .370 weight can be worked down (e.g. file) to fit into the smaller shaft tip.

If the epoxy doesnt fill or hold will it just rattle around?

Depending on the tip weight. you might be able to expand the part that goes in the shaft tip for a tighter fit. Like whack the stem with a hammer.

I have always epoxied my tip weights in for this reason.

If the flange doesn't hold it or not enough epoxy is used - yes it can happen.

I was nervous about that the tip weight was too skinny for the tip of the shaft and I wasn't sure how to get it to fit so I decided not to use it

If you found a better alternative that's fine.   Worst case, if it does come loose, you can shove a cork down to hold the tip weight in place (the same cork used when lead powder is used for weighting).

.335 steel wood tip weights work well in .355 tip shafts. At least it did the last time I used one 10yrs or so ago.

Yes.   Many builder supply chains - like golfworks.com - they don't offer a .355 specific tip weight.  Only a .335 version and a .370 version and you're supposed to use the .335" tip weight in .355" shafts.

 

Although sometimes I find it a bit curious that the industry hasn't yet adapted to the fact that nobody really needs .335" steel shaft tip weights any more.
