KBS Tour V vs C Taper

Getting ready to order a set of i230’s and stuck between the Tour V 120 and C Taper S+. Have played both in different sets in the past but never head to head. Anyone have a direct comparison? Pretty aggressive transition with a late release and lots of lag. Play Ventus Black in driver and currently playing KBS Tours in my irons which surprisingly have worked. Generally get along better with Project X than Dynamic Gold.

I have not hit tour Vs yet but loved feel and numbers of $ taper 130 vs C taper 130, something to look into.  I also have played and liked feel of PX 6 and 6.5 

 

Tried c taper 125 vs the 130 and it was noticeably looser to me, lots more draw action on the sim that I didn’t want

played both, a full season with tour v.  They will feel closest to the kbs tours.  I shot some decent rounds with them, but there was an. Element of timing I didn’t care for along with what I will describe as a floaty ball flight.

 

have you tried modus 130 in stiff?  To me that’s the best attributes of project x, tour v, and c taper in one shaft.

I’ve hit the Modus 130 in X but not S. They seem to be more difficult to get as an option as well.

Makes sense.  I should have read your question better as well.  Direct comparison was head to head in ping i210’s.  The tour v won out.  Was just as accurate, half a club longer, and easier to swing for 18.

So you had both the Tour V and C Taper in i210’s? Thought you said initially the Tour V was floaty?

Yes.  I was fit into the tour v 120 in the I210 heads.  Scored ok, but didn’t love the floaty ball flight( couldn’t tell if the ball was going to fall 5-10 yards left or right).  Swapped in c tapers s+ straight in.  Ball flight was more penetrating, but flew about 5 yards shorter across the bag and I would occasionally struggle to control my low point) Didn’t love the ctaper feel, so put the  tour vs back in and played them for the balance of the season.

 

(moved to modus 130x in the pings during the off season and played them till I sold them)

Currently play tour v 120x in a set of i59's and actually play the ventus black in my driver. The kbs tour v really works well for me as I'm super steep on the irons and they tend to launch a bit higher than the tour issue x100's I previously played. Really impressed with the weight.

If the KBS Tour works... why not stick with them? Can you go heavier/stiffer?

 

I play Tour 130X - but would happily play Tour V X. I don't like C Taper in any flex - they don't feel good and I get really weird results.

Unless you’re pulling something out of a factory build like LS6.5, you’re not ordering 125’s direct from Ping anytime soon. 
That being said I found the S+ to be my favourite and most consistent shaft I’ve ever played.

To follow back up on this you think if my driver swings bead is in the 115-120 and 7i and carry distance is 185. I’d be OK in the 130s?

Tough call.  Depends on how aggressive and quick your tempo is.  I would say test before the dropping in a full set.  It’s definitely a unique profile.
 

I might have a spare 130x and s (same iron length) shaft I could send if you want to compare.

I appreciate that but no need. I played the 130x in a set of 785’s a few years back and dont recall them being overly stiff. I just see a lot of discussion about the stiff’s being plenty for even hihhbswing speed guys because of the butt and mid stiffness
