Driving Iron Higher Loft/Longer Shaft

I haven't been able to fill the gap in my bag between my 3 wood (265 yds) and 4/3 iron (225 yds). I have tried 5 woods and hybrids, and havent had great success with either (probably swing issues). I think an iron just fits my eye better, but I dont really want a low bullet ball flight. When I test 2 irons I fly them about the same distance as my 4 iron, but obviously rolls out further. I really just want 10-15 yards farther in carry distance.

 

Question is, if I were to get say a Ping crossover or TM DHY as a 3 iron, but extend the shaft/put a 2 iron shaft in it, would this get me the longer carry im looking for? Is there anything else I should be looking at for this? Its not really anything I can test in a store.

I don't hate the idea if you're a low/low guy for launch and spin!

 

I know a really good player who did a similar thing with a 17.5 degree fairway wood at 43.25" so he could launch it high enough from 260ish.

I actually am a pretty high ball hitter, but consistently am getting like 7 degrees of launch on a 2 iron. Ball speed should be fine to get to a 235-240 yard carry with the same total distance, but I havent found one that launches high enough

I don’t have your distance (D: 260 3W: 240) and my Gen2 PXG 0311x is best known for your (unwanted) ball flight… but setting ball/ hands more “neutral” and decidedly sweeping… have no problem getting it up w/ total distance = the intended and touted “stinger.” It is really easy to flight or drive from a variety of lies, and much easier to work than my hybrid, w/ a lot more “oomph” (on demand) than 5i (lowest trad iron, DI is 4/ 21.5). Behind driver it is my most pulled club and makes my 19.5 Sim2 near obsolete (a less consistent 1-trick pony… ~10 more yards w/ 1 flight path). I hit DI from 195-225 today… high, low… 20+ yards run out, and a 10ft. E-brake stop (high-teed draw over a long-carry par 3). Favorite club ever, ease and versatility. The 2 and 3 are calling me.

 

To me, going longer shaft would flirt w/ my disdain for FW/ HY… and also challenge my steep AoA 🤷‍♂️ Other way around, I’ve been intrigued by 1-length Cobra and Cally Super Hybrids… but haven’t had the chance to hit.
