TIGER says "Greg Norman has to go" at LIV..... Thoughts?

Tiger's comments:

- “I think Greg has to go, first of all,” he said.

- He had some choice words for LIV defectors, objecting to some of the pros who left and “the way they showed their disregard or disrespect to the Tour that helped them get to that point.”

 

Comical remarks from Tiger, IMO.  

- In what world does he think his opinion matters to LIV?

- Disrespect for the PGA Tour?  Was he thinking about that when he was on his way to Perkins to scout the waitresses?  Or when he was behind the wheel when he crashed the car?

I do think it is interesting that so much ire is being directed squarely at Greg Norman. Not just by Tiger.

 

I've never been a Norman fan and considered the dude a total ******, so this doesn't surprise me.

 

But, I do find it odd that these comments seem to suggest that (some) people would be ok with LIV if Norman wasn't involved.

 

Oh rich people and their personal disputes...what more do we have to be interested in?

From the comments and quotes that I read, he's not telling them what to do.  He was asked if the PGA Tour and LIV could ever come to any agreement.  He said that both sides would need to back down from all current lawsuits and get together across a table, but that it would never happen as long as Greg Norman is in charge of LIV.  That's where the “I think Greg has to go, first of all.” comment came from.

Not sure what Tiger's extracurriculars off the course have to do with any of this. Comparing that to guys directly badmouthing their former employer (most things they said are just blatantly false too, I might add) is absurd.

Taking Tiger's comments out of the equation, IMO Greg is poison for LIV. It seems as if his ego is above all, and paired with the stubbornness of Jay M is a recipe for disaster. 

 

All it's been lately is a urination match between mainly those two and some players spatting back and forth. 

 

Again, only my opinion: but I don't see how live can flourish without some agreement with the Tour, and I don't see how the Tour can prosper without some agreement with LIV. 

 

All it's doing is creating tension, taking up time in press conferences of us hearing the same remarks over and over. 

 

I'm personally not a LIV fan, but my reasons are unpolitical. I just don't enjoy the format they've laid out. 

 

On another note: how awesome would a PGA vs. LIV style Ryder cup event be?

When you get to the bottom of all of this, i would bet this has to do with unwanted nudes.

Norman does not need to be nude to be unwanted. Imagine that thing coming at ya down a dark alley...

Weird and irrelevant remarks about Tiger's personal life and failings don't really have anything to do with the fact that if Norman does in fact have his sights set on the dissolving of the PGA Tour and replacement with a "World Tour" as he has been talking about for years that this is likely something pretty poisonous to what LIV is ultimately trying to do. Having the egomaniacal madman with an axe to grind at the helm of your budding operation is never a good long term plan and it would shock no one that is paying attention if a much more milquetoast personality were to be installed in his place at some point.

My guess on why Tiger thinks they could work things out without Norman...

The general feeling seems to be that Norman has been out to blow up the PGA Tour for decades.  And LIV is the culmination of that.  So as long has he is there, there is probably not much interest in compromise on either side.  Of course I could be wrong!

I'm no fan of GN but IMHO this is not the kind of negotiating/lobbying you do in public.  While Tiger and Rory aren't paid spokespeople for the Tour, the perception of many I suspect would be that when they speak they speak for the Tour.  If they are in fact signalling the opinions of Tour leadership then I would suggest this would be more effective communicated through backchannels.

 

So while I might agree, this approach makes no sense for the life of me.

I don’t think it’s a secret that Norman feels slighted by the PGA and that LIV was his middle finger back to the tour.  There is no way the two sides can come together and work it out when the leader on one side is motivated by vengeance and hate.  I hear that Norman doesn’t want to deal with the PGA and the PGA doesn’t want to deal with him.  But, I’ve yet to hear LIV doesn’t want to deal with the PGA, or visa versa.  Sounds like Norman is the common problem.
