Group Shoots an *unbelievable* 46 in scramble

They had an ace on a par 4, an albatross, 4 eagles  and 12 birdies 🙄.  PSA to not play scrambles expecting others to be honest!

My only question after watching this video is what were the rules of the event? The scoreboard is showing a lot of scores that would raise eyebrows at most scramble events I've participated in. I did play in one event that had some ridiculous rules such as "tee off from the 100 on a par 5 for 20 bucks" "each team member is allowed 4 throws throughout day not counting as a stroke" "foot mashies (kicking the ball)" and I have even seen "buy a hole in one".

So well I have no doubt that the team with a 46 is probably cheating in some capacity, I wonder if this event also had some of these "rules" in play as well.

So apparently they had some "throw balls" and 10 mulligans. Still not buying the score or that any of them threw a ball onto a par 4 green

I agree with you. 10 mulligans isn't enough to have that level of impact but it does make the amount of rounds in the mid to low 50's make more sense. And throw balls can only gain you so much. I was a pitcher in college and I probably can throw a golfball maybe just over 100 yards if I really tried. Though my arm would likely explode doing so.

I never understand why people cheat in these things. Everyone knows and for what? Top prizes are usually like a free foursome.

They shot a 46 and that's not urine.

Gotta be Michelob Ultra. The question is, and if we are willing accept that it isn't urine, did it come from a tap, bottle, or an esophagus?

I wonder if this tournament had "rope" for purchase. Typically the rope can be bought by foot, if you are putting on the green, lets say its 5 feet, you all miss, you can use the rope and count it as holed, you take away 5ft of the rope.

Played a scramble once where a team bought like 200ft+ of rope and had an astonishingly low score (they won). After the awards were given, it turns out they "misunderstood" how the rope worked. Instead of using it to hole a shot within a given length of rope, they instead played it as any approach shot that lands within the rope counted as holed. So you stick an approach to 10 ft, you measure out 10ft or rope, count it as an eagle. Put a birdie chip to 5 ft, measure out 5ft, count it as a birdie.

No way in hell these guys weren't using some sort of tom foolery like this

I have seen this story before and i also thought that. A lot of these events have ways to buy strokes or move up tees or etc. It could be they just donated a ton of cash and we're teeing off from 50 yards out on most of the holes.

I played in a charity scramble where you could buy mulligans, buy the ladies tee box, and buy lengths of string up to 10’ (essentially enlarging the hole).

So if you knock it on the green on a par 4 from the ladies tee to within 10’ it would be recorded as an ace.

It was a charity hit~n~giggle fund raiser with beer and shots handed out on every3rd hole to keep everybody in a charitable mood.  Don’t know what the winning score turned in was claimed to be, but we shot -22 and got our butts kicked! 🤣

Crazy but it happens. This has been circulating around my group of golf buddies and we all have stories of scramble groups coming in with the lowest score. One was just last year where the winners looked exactly out of place for the tournament, a couple guys looked like they never picked up a golf club till that weekend. It’s a shame but it always happens. No real way to police it.

Real beer doesn't leave footprint staining.  Only uric acid and Mich Ultra can do that.

I need to dig a little deeper.  I'll text my urologist.  He plays golf.

A salient and worthy point, I can't deny it.

But, blind taste testing has consistently shown that the difference, for the end user,  is almost imperceptible.

I posted on here a while back about a best ball I played in for a military cause.  Our 4some included 3 low cappers and a former LPGA player (my former boss).  We carded a 55 due to the boss's putter getting hot.  Went to the clubhouse for lunch and saw a 49 on the board.  The group that posted it looked like they'd just picked up the game.  Ok........sure they shot 49.

My question more relates to society as a whole.  Why do people feel the need to cheat at events like this?  It's a charity cause with trinket prizes.  Ego???

Love that there's a dude in an Auburn windshirt in the background. War Eagle!

Certainly looks like Alabama. That score - and the individual claiming it - offer a visceral "feel" of Alabama. And that clubhouse gotta be RTJ Golf Trail.

I'm guessing Capitol Hill and the BYOB scramble - sponsored by Michelob Ultra (of course).

Clowns.

Looks like the BYOB in Dothan (Highlands).    With all of the "fun" types of things, I can see how some scores got really low.  I've played in that before at that particular course and with some "creative reading and interpretation" of the rules, I can fathom a high 40's low 50's.  From the tees they would play a long drive can get you to 20-25 yards on a par 4 (add a "luck toss" that happens to find the hole and there's your 1).  Do that 3 more times, assuming of course perfect aim and no double dipping of shenanigans, and you start to see how the scores go.

NOW...all of that said - I'm still calling Bovine Manure on the score.  When you are too embarrassed to accept your win proudly - you know something is up.  The dude announcing it could not even keep a straight face.  Im guessing they had the opportunity to go back out for another 18 straight up with lots of cash on the line, but somehow had to get back to a more pressing commitment.  I hope that $150 pro-shop credit is worth it!

Ah yes, lovely Dothan. I could see that. Obviously had to be somewhere more to the South. At least you concur that it is indeed an RTJ Trail course, and most likely the BYOB. Nice to know that my Alabama detector is still working reasonably well.

Always heard great things about Highlands but never had the chance to play it. Grand National was my home, and I've played Magnolia Grove a fair amount. The RTJ membership deal still has to be one of the best values in golf.
