Portland ME area

Just moved to the area. As we're expecting the 1st nor'easter storm of the winter in 24 hours, obviously just getting a feel if anybody on here plays in the area for next season. Would also love to know if there's any ranges in the area that are either in door or have heated bays to use in the winter months? It was a beautiful 40/50 degree day the other day and got rejected at 2 courses cause they were already closed for the season which was a bummer. Gonna be much different from the Pennsylvania winters I'm used to for golf anyways!

I'm a new transplant to New England as well,  South of you in New Hampshire.  I got a round in last week but it seems like most (all?) courses closed up this week.  There's a range or two down here that stay open and a few simulator places that are really cool but more expensive than playing regular golf!

 

I barely caught the end of the season out here but really looking forward to next year and knocking out a bunch of new courses!  Happy Holidays!

I believe the last local course (Nonesuch River) just closed this week, although Dunegrass might still be open.

Nonesuch might reopen if there isn't snow on the ground.

I actually did pop in to Nonesuch about a week or so ago and was told basically the same . The 2 that u linked, are they just Sims/hitting into a something or actually full shot and distance range? I appreciate both responses. I hear good things about Maine golf, can't wait to get out here

A semi public course to keep in mind for Spring and Summer is Cape Arundel in Kennebunkport....very fun layout. The fried egg has a course vlog on youtube.

I read about Arundel, pretty excited to play some Maine courses. Now I'm from PA, most courses u can get on during the weekdays for less then 50, weekends under 75. It looks like all courses up here are is 75 minimum, some closer to 100/a round. Is that pretty standard going rate? I can't see myself playing a solo round for 100 a pop... guess it's back to being a range and chipping green rat lol

There is a range in Cumberland that has a membership for like $300 I believe. Getting on public courses is a battle. Join the MSGA and try and hook up with a group that way. You get to play a different course every week and I think it is only $50 a round, not including cart, and they will put you in the individual and team action as well. You will need an established handicap. You used to be able to join the Riverside Golf Association for $60 and could post scores thru there and keep a handicap.

I will be in Portland, ME for a baseball tournament that my son is playing in the weekend of June 23-25. His team doesn’t play until the afternoon all 3 days. How lucky for me! So I’m looking for recommendations for public golf courses near South Portland.
 

It looks like there are a fair number of public courses nearby based on a Google search. The only one I’ve played before is Nonesuch River many years ago.  I’m looking for a course close to South Portland that I could get an early tee time as a single or possibly two. Thanks for any recommendations.
