What Golf Trips Have You Got Planned for Next Year?

Always interested in peoples' golf plans.

I have a short 5 day upstate resort stay for about 16 guys in March and then a longer trip to England in Spetember for just four of us.

I would list those courses but interested in what courses others might have on the agenda .

Sand Valley, Streamsong and Pinehurst.

 

Been to those 3 so what I am most excited for is Costa Navarino in Greece. Courses won't be as good but hard to beat playing in the AM and sitting on the mediterranean beach in the afternoon. Pretty unknown place, but they have 4 decent resort courses.

About to start looking at a last minute trip to Ireland in April.

 

I may also do a last minute trip to Sand Valley in the fall if I can make it work.

Raleigh in late April for 4 days. Looking at Mid Pines, Duke Golf Club, and maybe Tobacco Road

Portugal in late Sept for a week Penha Longa, West Cliffs x2, Praia D’el Rey x2, Royal Obidos, and Oitivos Dunes or Comporta Dunes if it’s opened by then.

I’ll prob add a week to the Portugal trip. I’ll either do the Scottish Highlands, (Royal Aberdeen, Cruden Bay,  Peterhead, Nairn, Dornoch x2) NW England, (Birkdale, Lytham & St. Anne’s, Hoylake, West Lancs, Hillside, Wallasey, and Formby) or SE Ireland, (Druids Glen to see new redesign, European Club, Wicklow, Arklow, Old Head, Waterville, Dooks) Same problem as always, too many golf courses and not enough time.

Rescheduled from 2021 trip to Scotland (7 courses) in July

Some soft invitations to National (NY), Nanea (HI), Philly Cricket (PA), Pasatiempo (CA) and Bulls Bridge (CT) that I hope become firm, if I can get to those states.

2022 was a great year for golf. Hopefully 2023 will be better. Being an empty nester is great!

I work in Ireland, so I will play quite a few.  I do, however, want to get in the courses with renos as a priority.

Only thing I have planned is a quick weekend to Secession in January.  Hopefully we get a weekend at least in the 50's.

2022 was a pretty epic golf year for me (Palm Springs in Feb for 2rds, Annual Bandon trip in Feb, AZ in April with 1 round at a bachelor party, Wine Valley trip 4rds in May, Pinehurst trip in July, Bend, OR in Sept, Golfers Journal event at Wing Point in Oct, Alabama 2 RTJ courses and a private course in Nov, and 2 rounds in Maui in Dec) - Overall played in 7 different states in 2022!

 

2023

- Annual Bandon trip March 1-5 is all that is on the books currently

- Will probably go to California or Arizona at some point

- The group I went to Pinehurst with is going to do a Kohler, WI trip in September but unfortunately I won't be able to go which I am bummed about!

- Hoping to knock off a few local Seattle area private clubs that I have not yet played in 2023

Hoping to add a SE England trip, and then something off the beaten path - maybe Lofoten Links (Norway), Thracian Cliffs (Bulgaria).  Those pictures of Costa Navarino above are very tempting also.

Thracian looks incredible. I’m trying to figure how to include that with Turkey and Greece.

I'm based in Krakow, and RyanAir just added direct flights to Varna starting next July.  I think it's a sign, and will never be any easier to get to. 

 

I also spoke with the Director of Golf  at Monte Rei in Portugal this spring, who was at Thracian when they opened it up.  Given one of the biggest concerns was ensuring golf carts didn't go over the cliffs, I think the landscape will be quite dramatic (maybe even more so than pictures appear).

Looking at Streamsong, Sand Valley, and Bandon Dunes

 

It does not get much better than that 🙂  Luckily I can drive to Sand Valley so that makes a huge difference.  Streamsong is 1.5 hours from my parents home in Florida so again super easy while I am visiting them.

 

Bandon is the big "pain in the butt" because of its location but the golf is just to good to pass up 🙂

So far just my annual trip to Gatlinburg TN in April.  I think this might be our 12th year.  Our typical list of courses to play includes Bent Creek,which is where we stay, Gatlinburg Golf Club, Sevierville Golf Club and Island Pointe (formerly River Island).

 

Some of those other trips listed sound awesome.

Sure you could - lot of driving.  But there is plenty along the route.  I am not as familiar with the route down - but plenty of golf in NM, AZ, and CA.   You hit big cities on the way down, so I am sure you could hit many good courses within a reasonable distance.  If you travel the actual route (assuming it still exists) you would add on more time of course and the golf would be further away.

I’m pretty sure @Argonne69 has done that trip.
