New AMG Shallowing Video - Wow...

This is such gold. I would say myself (and most people on here) know more than the average person about the swing but seeing stuff like this just reassures me I shouldn’t mess with my swing/do stuff I’m unsure of as I don’t know what negative impact it could be.

I like the above video from AMG a lot. Especially like how in the comments he mentions how if your grip is good and you make some rehearsals coming down to the ball, you shouldn’t have to worry all that much about wrist flexion/ulnar deviation lol

Such a good video. I was just messing around with the feeling of straightening my trail elbow from the top. I was really squishing it until the ball I was using split. I think I'll stick with this feeling for a while.

Do you apply this same move to pitch shots through 3/4 and 4/5 swings?

I can usually get shallowing down with the full swing but when I go to practicing wedges I seem to lose it all. The thought of going straight at the ball with hands is ingrained in the short shots

I knew you’d come up with that thread… when you got Monte, Dan, Shauheen all saying the same thing and AMG proving that it’s what happening in elite swings - you listen!

Holy cow...

I mean olink and "sooner you straighten the trailing arm the slower your clubhead will be. Look at video of the greats, I don't think your hypothesis is supported. " is one thing, but at least he doesn't get a TGM cult shovel out and dig himself a giant hole like... well, go take a gander - iTeach never did suffer fools gladly to say the least, lol.

There's some gold in that thread on right arm extending

wonder what bph7 got banned for - heresy?

Homer Kelley was a genius in one regard: he managed to write a book where everything was purposely obfuscated enough that no one could get it, so he was the only authority on it originally, which enabled him to appear to be an authority on the subject in spite of his laughable lack of qualifications. From there, he introduced an accreditation system to give the program more legitimacy, and from there was able to develop quite a following in spite of no one ever vetting the book. Essentially, he did what every leader of any cult ever has done, and to this day you still have the mizuno joes of the world who think that a random employee of Boeing with no formal education in the subject to speak of somehow figured out the golf swing where no one else could. For this, homer Kelley deserves credit because he knew that a sucker was born every minute and was smart enough to exploit said suckers.

Just like losing lag, elbow unloading early and too much is not the issue.  You what the wrists to UD and the elbow to straighten.  If they are early or wrong, forcing the angles to stay there will kill you because it’s something else.

I just talked to Shaun about how badass their new software is.  Very helpful, IMO.

Do you think that small amount of trail wrist supination they show in the video, and the type of ulnar deviation you talk about in NTC, is basically the same motion?

Yes, you want right tilt to be a necessity to hit the ball, not something you force in there.

Drop it in the slot intent right tilts you every time.  Too much external.

I made a mistake early on saying lead with the right elbow toward the belly button and wasn’t clear that was directional and not where you were actually supposed to get it.

Straightening it and accelerating the arms and hands on time gets that done for most.

I literally remember having a lesson with the guy who destroyed my swing where he tried to get me to force my elbow to my belly button on the downswing. He’d already ‘tested’ my external rotation and concluded that I needed to do more mobility work.

This must have been one of my last sessions with him. He now ‘coaches’ a regional squad of 14-17 year old juniors.

The way both the AMG guys and yourself describe what really happens is what good players have achieved in spite of instruction it seems.

It would seem that amg would say that there might be a tiny bit of shallowing from the arms but him lowering his chest to the ground is a steepening move. Seems like most things the body does until the lead swing starts extending is steepening.

I’m still waiting for the day we get really good grip data to go with the rest of the 3d data we already can measure.  Steep or shallow…who cares …there has been some pro somewhere who made it work, granted some better than others.

Show me p6 to impact what pulling forces were put on the grip by the golfers hands and corresponding body macro movements to square the clubface and get the sweet spot impact…that’s where the magic is.

Does lead arm height have any influence on how easy/hard it is to shallow? Filming this morning and I noticed my hands seem a little high. Leas hands probably a few inches over rear shoulder. Butt of club still pointing just a little inside the ball at arm parallel on way down... I'm really trying to feel like I extend from the elbow going down.

Thing in my arm pit is to help keep rear elbow from flaring, which is something I believe that happens due to a bit of lat tightness.

in addition to over bending the trail arm not a good idea to put something that large under your arms pit - restricts motion - do this instead can even hit little shots with it.  if you have to put something under the armpit - do a golf glove and have it fall out at the top, or even a golf tee.
