Belt and shoe combos...how close do you match?

Hi,

 

For those of you with more colorful belts, how close,if at all, do you try to match the belt and shoe colors? I have a nice medium green belt from Jacob Hill, but I'm not finding medium green (think stan smith green, masters green) shoes. Most of the Nike stuff is treeline green, which is more Olive green I think. How closely do you match stuff up? Or do you go a different route and not match at all?

All my shoes are mostly white with black or some variation of blue accents. I match my belt more to my Polo and/or hat than my shoes since I gave up white belts 5 years ago. Not the same rules as the office which allows a nice level of creativity.

I only have white shoes right now, so my belt matches either matches my shorts or shirts.  Not sure I like the white belt look.  If you want your belt to match your shoes, is your hat matching those as well?  I'm too old and cheap to start that.

When I wear my Jordan 4 Masters I pair it with my Masters green belt from JH. Otherwise, I'll just wear predominantly white shoes and pair the belt with a Masters green themed polo.

I think that if you're going to try to match those colors, then you should either get it right, or avoid it altogether.

 

I'm sure that you could find a belt in that exact moss or yellow-green color. if you can't, then I'd just avoid any other green colors in your clothes with those shoes.

nah, i always just try to match belt with shirt or pants color instead of shoes. the matching hat/belt/shoes combo can look dated

Gave up white belts as well. I only have a black, grey, and blue belt so one of them will have to do no matter what I wear.

Thanks everyone. I’m especially bad at fashion so this helps. I’ve been wanting to get a white pair of shoes so I’ll pair the belt with a matching green masters polo and the white shoes.

Totally agree. That’s why I was hesitant to buy those Nikes.

In 70+yrs, this is the first time I heard males talk about matching shoes to belt.  Males certainly have changed.

I pay more attention to the pants/shorts.  Making sure the belt matches or at the very least - doesn't contrast, with the pants/shorts.

If I wear grey or black pants, it's usually black belt and grey shoes.  So not a 'match' at all.

 

I do wear white belts, when the mood hits or it goes with my outfit that day.

I assumed it was the norm for nice belts, or the norm for business attire at least. I really don’t know. The instagram feeds of JH and Patrick Gibbons are filled with belt/shoe matching combos.

In you second scenario what color pants are you wearing. Would gray work? Seriously my wife has stopped me before golf and asked “do you really want to be wearing that combo?” 😂

True.  I have a salesman who monitors my wardrobe at the men's store where I shop for all my business attire.  Same store and salesmen since the 80s. 

 

Yes, my belts matched my shoes; black, brown or maroon, but that has never been a topic of conversation. LOL When I go there to shop, we discuss sports and business topics, but never discuss matching this or that; that is what women do.

 

My golf shoes are white, and have four belts that coordinate with shorts or slacks.

I usually stick with dark shorts since I'm in FL and swamp a** is very much real. Match my belt to my shorts and then I have a pair of white/navy shoes and all black shoes to match with whichever shorts I am wearing

Golf clothing is casual wear.   Belt doesn't need to match the shoes.

LOL. I usually ask my wife what she thinks of my outfits before heading out.

 

I've worn white shorts and light gray shorts.

Keep things simple and it becomes a lot easier to pull together something that looks coordinated. Khaki, grey, navy, white, etc. is a lot easier to wear than bold colors like green. Keith Mitchell is a pro at this. He does simple better than anyone else on tour.

You won't raise eyebrows if you coordinate your belt with your pants/shorts.  I don't want to highlight any one thing.  There's a reason most consider "uniforms" classy.

I think the trend is to either match your shirt or pants, and, depending on your body type, how much attention do you want to draw to your mid-section. My shoes and belt are not likely to match.
