Rickie Fowler - WITB - 2023 The American Express

He did shoot a clean 68 on Thursday. Pretty much what the true par was given the course difficulty and dome-like conditions, but still…good for him.

The putter would be decent if he didn't have that busy paint job. I would not be able to focus and have a solid stroke with that. This is what I think of when I see that. My eyes would be all over the place.

Same putter head Keegan Bradley was using in the BDS episode today. UGLY but maybe something to it.

I'd still have mine if it hadn't started to get some weird corrosion on it when it had to be put in storage for a military move when I lived out of the country for a year. I asked Ping if they could do anything to rehab it, but they said no since it was made of aluminum. Not sure what I ended up doing with it. Real pity, that.

Wasn't it ugly though?  Man alive you didn't buy one of those because of its classic good looks...lol

Without question, even Cameron's worst mallet designs (and he's had some total donkeys) looked at the Doc and asked "did you leave any branches on the Ugly Tree intact?" However, it's funny how a combination of positive results and sheer desperation on the part of the user can make a trash can lid look like a viable option. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as it were.

If only Rickie had the resources around him to figure out which ball suits him best. Man...

This is why I dont buy into a ball causing it.  He made major swing changes.  And golf balls basically all perform and feel the same once you get to the premium stuff.  I would guess the swing changes are the major issue.  And it looks like he is fixing it.

If he was planning on making major swing changes, then why change the ball too? Seems like it was $$$ focused at the time and the result was a lost 3-4 years

I disagree with your premise that the balls all perform and feel the same at the premium level.  It's why they spend so much time at the highest levels of the game experimenting with different balls to maximize various areas of their performance.  It's not unusual to see balls at that level even the top amateurs can't get.  Titleist might say for example that 20  guys are playing Pro V1 on a particular week, but there might be 4 different versions of that ball among those 20 players.  Look at the USGA conforming ball list sometime.  It's staggering and there is a reason why its so big.

That’s the most GolfWRX putter setup ever. Makes me want Rickie to succeed even more. That has to be the most niche setup out there, and I hope he makes a ton with it.

Wow, surprised he is going with the King Tour irons instead of the CBs.

There was a member here a while back that mentioned a couple times that it must be really embarrassing for Rickie to miss all those cuts w/MB blades in the bag. Looks like he finally read those posts and made the change 😉 Lol

@knudson81 and @atursky or @pga43 might know the exact length of Rickie Fowler's putter?

It's discussed in their recent TG2 podcast (timestamp ~6m25s)... mentioned is a counterbalanced putter i.e. could be around the 35-36" putter length if similar to other Odyssey counterbalanced putters?

I think it is more like 37-38 inch, the shaft is almost anchored like a belly putter. But I could be wrong obviously.

You could be right!

found this photo ie if you can estimate the distance from waist-to-floor, then that’ll be a good guess w.r.t. putter length?

Bingo. He can’t spin it. He’s changed his entire swing multiple times trying to get some spin back in his game.

Wishing the best for Rickie Fowler.  Whatever it takes for him to return to his previous form I will support.

Golf is a humbling game even for the very best players.

I would putt with a hotdog on a stick if It would allow me to drop a few strokes a round.

Some people get the latest clubs because they enjoy the excitement of something new or it gives them satisfaction for other reasons.

Those of you that are focused more on looking good or having bag swag I appreciate that golf fashion is your thing and wish you success.

As a middle aged, lumpy/fluffy, balding golfer that has been pursuing getting down to scratch and finding it hard to drop those last few strokes I’m not afraid to try something new that will help me get there.

I actually just switched back to my Corey Paul finished Forged MBs from my Cobra King Tour MIM irons because the blades give me more consistent yardages and a softer feel despite theoretically being less forgiving.  I also played my best golf with them.  Both sets have similar specs and the same shafts and grips.

My feeling is that whatever gives someone confidence and the best results are what they ought to use.

Good luck to all y’all for a successful golf season in 2023.  I’m pulling for Rickie and hope to see him in contention again soon.

"I would rather lose 5 strokes around and game a putter that looks decent and has bag swag." WOW!! What an admission!

I stand by my comment.  It shows a sign of weakness to competitors if you use a putter that looks like that. At least look like you can putt or you’ll get pressed before you tee off

I would think that putting poorly would be a much greater conveyance of weakness than the look of the putter.

If you are saying the jailbird looks good, I respect your opinion.

If one of my friends decided to experiment with that much lead tape/length, etc it would nonverbally tell me that my opponent is mentally fragile and that I should run his pockets.
