Played a few at Del again today. Cant get over how good of shape the fairways and greens are right now.....

Had a great trip a few weeks ago. I missed Starr Pass but it was my groups favorite.

Played Quarry Pines this morning. Course was in excellent condition in all aspects, really nothing to complain about. I was pleasantly surprised that it was in much better condition than the last time I played it a few years ago. Course was playing somewhat firm. People either seem to love or hate this course, I really enjoy the layout, it seems to suit my game. Had a perfect random paring with some great guys and finished in under 3.5 hours.

 

Also earlier in the week I played Tucson CC with a friend who is a member. The course is closing at the end of May for a pretty extensive renovation of all green complexes, and to add some new back tee boxes to accommodate UofA. Supposed to reopen Dec 1.

is Tucson CC now going to be the home course for UofA? Aren’t they at Sewailo now?

They have moved to Tucson CC  from Sewailo. Tucson CC already expanded the practice area to accommodate them, and UofA will have their own building off to the side of Tucson CC's clubhouse. A handful of team members were out playing the day I was there.

Bulldozers will begin moving dirt on the Saguaro 9 at Dove Mountain June 5th.  They are closing 9 holes per summer to remove the dumbWord not allowed Nickolas greens and re-contour them.  I don't know if they will do anything to improve sight lines off the tee or other blind shots, but I generally like the course until it is time to putt.  This should be, over time, a great improvement.  On the flip side, there are some very picturesque holes, particularly on Tortolita, that are about to become home sites.

I don't get down to Tucson very much, but I got to stay and play at Star Pass during a conference. Overall the course was in really good shape, the greens are fast and roll very true. Played in the afternoon and the wind was insane. The pace was great, zoomed around in less than 3 hours. First time playing Star Pass, played Rattlesnake and Roadrunner 9's, the layout didn't do much for me. Definitely one where I would have to play a couple times to give it a fair review. Initial thoughts are it's a bit of a forced/goofy/target/narrow layout, but I still had fun the first time around. I had issues of balls rolling through fairways without knowing the proper lines.

Got out to Tucson National - Sonoran course today in the ridiculous wind. Greens were awesome, bunkers have plenty of sand and the fairways are solid. $60 at 2PM today was very reasonable.

Played Randolph yesterday. Overseed came in amazing and looks like they put sand in the bunkers. Pace of play was awesome as well, just a tad over 4 hours. Also only paid $33 for a 10:14 tee time, fortunate to play golf in Tucson and not the valley. 😂

No joke....Foothills is trying to get $100 for a tee time...and that course is trashed and is probably not even as good as Randolph.

That is just crazy, can only imagine what my old stomping grounds at Tukee CC is charging. Seems like every city course is $33 down here. Playing Silverbell next Monday for the same price and every city courses overseed came in beautifully.

How's this?  If you don't know this course...let's just keep it at it's short and not good.  But we have to pay $50 for an afternoon time.  Unless there is $45 going to the skins pool, this is not a good deal.

 

The Lakes at Ahwatukee will be hosting a Skins Game every Friday starting November 17!!

$50 includes Greens Fee and entry into the Skins!
