I've played close to 1,000 courses and as much as I tried I can't name just ten. Per Chanceman's original post, these are not the "best" courses I've played and exclude courses like Pine Valley, Winged Foot E & W, The Country Club, Olympic The Ocean Course etc.,  as they were really hard (for me at least).

These are my favorites, excluding Great Britain & Ireland, which I'll have to think about and post separately.

Just booked rounds at Dooks and Tralee (and Waterville) for this summer - good to hear that they get on your favorite list. The criteria for booking was "fun to play with 13 year old son who is a solid player but gets discouraged if it is too tough" and this was the list we were recommended (back 9 of Tralee notwithstanding...).

My list is evolving from famous courses I played on my own to ones I had the best day at with my son, dad and brother.

Favorite courses I have played:

  1. Tobiano in Kamloops, BC
  2. Diamante Dunes in Cabo (the Tiger Woods course El Cardonal was good too, but not on the level of Dunes)
  3. Royal Dornoch
  4. St. Andrews (Old, New, Jubilee: we played a few, all were an awesome experience)
  5. Tobacco Road (also played Mid Pines, Mid South, Southern Pines from a Pinehurst area trip I did, which were all great)
  6. Quivira in Cabo
  7. PGA West Stadium (although I probably enjoyed the two Indian Wells courses just as much, just cool to play one that is on TV all the time)
  8. Kananaskis (both courses are awesome)
  9. Mickelson National in Calgary, AB (played it once on our way to the mountains and really liked it)
  10. The Derrick Golf and Winter Club

Interesting, with so many Canadian courses. Would you not rate Greywolf in that group, if you have played it?

Another western Canadian here, and I would not. Greywolf isn’t even my favourite course in Invermere (Eagle Ranch, The Springs).
