Farmers Insurance Open 2023 (*** NO LIV DISCUSSIONS/REFERENCES ***)

California dreamin' continues this week as the PGA Tour stays out West for the 2023 Farmers Insurance Open. Torrey Pines is once again the host and the question is can anyone stop Jon Rahm? The Spaniard has risen to world number 3 with four wins in his last six starts. He, of course, has form around Torrey where he claimed his US Open in 2021 and his maiden Tour title back in 2017. Due to the sheer yearly presence of Tiger Woods this event always seemed to be an upper echelon event however before slipping back some in recent years. That said, a good field looks to be in place and it all kicks off on Wednesday with a Saturday finish to clear the decks for the NFL on Sunday.

Picking Collin (14:1) to play well this week to win, no collapse on Sunday. He tied for 4th here in 2021 US Open. Rahm (4.5:1) is too expensive.

Weather looks good for San Diego this week, Rahm most likely will have his 2 small kids with him, little sleep & sore feet after the AMEX .... he will pull off another win just because he's full of confidence & his putter is still hot.

If my math is ok and that's a big if... Scheffler not losing any points because he had a MC at the Farmers in 2021, Rahm losing minimal from the same tourney... he needs to get 17-18 pts this weekend to leap over the average pts/tourney mark by Scottie... which, with the Field Rating as it is; is a 3rd place...

 

And by the way, Rory is not that far ahead... so I'm guessing a top2-top3 might actually get him to #1... but I know the target is Scottie, always is!

Scheffler is only #2 by points, not by skills.

Finished #151 but then moved into the 126-150 category when the LIV guys were removed.

Strong field. Awesome scenery (as long as sea fret doesn't role in), OK courses. 18 is bad hole.

Love that it’s a Wednesday thru Saturday finish. This is always a great tournament and the Tour is probably loving the early wins by Rahm to get some star power on the west coast swing. I actually like Fowler this week. I think he’s ready to prove a lot of people wrong.

Not a weak field but it must be the first time Torrey Pines have a weaker field than the previous desert tournament.  Great scenerys and some picturesque holes at the beginning. But it must be the 2nd most urgent famous golf course in need of some major revamping of the last holes. Noone remembers the finishing holes on Torrey Pines from the year before.

Grandstands at times create unfair advantages for players and IMO the 18th at Torrey South is one of the biggest.  That water can be taken completely out of play for someone going for it in 2 because nobody can fly those grandstands w/a FW so they get a drop from the stands and it's not a difficult chip for the pros.  If those grandstands weren't there it'd be much more difficult pitching up from where the ball would come to rest over the green.

 

This would bring the water back in play because guys would need more precision from that longer distance.
