They looking at PReed ball stuck in giant palm tree!

Rory watching gotta be laughing his butt off!

Looks like he's dropping at wrong place. From the slow motion of his ball flight, it looked like his ball was heading for left tree(facing toward green from tee or closer to fairway) of the 3 trees, not right one(further away from fairway). Am I wrong?

Unusual situation with Patrick Reed.

A really bad lie has ended up saving him a shot.

Somebody has to find that ball in the tree please. The cameras say the ball was in one tree. Reed said the volunteers told him it was in another. A lot of people draw a full line around the sight line the same way. Poor Patrick. Volunteers accidentally lead him astray and it sure looks like he unknowingly tried to get out of going back to the tee by saying he found a ball that was probably not his.

I know there's been a lot of debate about what style putter suits Rory best.  And he put on a clinic a number of years ago at the API with a Soto or Juno.

But I think someone should take all his blade putters away from him and just leave him w/that Spider X.

yep, yet @TaylorMade Golf won’t release it like they should do

clearly the better model, nobody is choosing to play the latest one.

At what hole was this incident?

Direct from DP Tour

The DP World Tour issued a statement Sunday clarifying the ruling: "Two on-course referees and several marshals identified that Patrick Reed's ball had become lodged in a specific tree following his tee shot on 17. The DP World Tour chief referee joined the player in the area and asked him to identify his distinctive ball markings. Using binoculars, the chief referee was satisfied that a ball with those markings was lodged in the tree.

"The player subsequently took an unplayable penalty drop (Rule 19.2c) at the point directly below the ball on the ground. To clarify, the player was not asked to specify the tree but to identify his distinctive ball markings to confirm it was his ball."

What are the odds of Reed finding his golf ball in a tree full of golf balls? Assuming he was even looking in the right tree.

He was looking in the wrong tree because the volunteers led him astray. But if he was looking at the right tree, it’s possible. Problem is that if there’s a lot of balls up there, it’s hard to identify your ball based on a putting line he drew on because a lot of players do that.

Reed said nothing about any red dot, lol.

He got the benefit of a very kind rules official, IMO, but . . . the official was there and the ruling was the ruling.

Reminds me of a guy I played against one afternoon in our group when I was in grad school one summer --- we were playing for nickels and in teams of two, you might win enough to cover the other guy's beer after the round if you won.  Off he went into some tall grass to find his tee shot, saw him drop a ball out of his pocket, "I found it!"  Didn't care, not worth making a scene about ----- the funny part of the story is I went to his wedding later in the fall and found out he'd just gotten a job with . . . the CIA (surprised I never got a call to verify the note on his resume about being good at "dirty tricks").  Then again, they probably had devices taping me telling people about it in bars and on the good old landline. God, I love that story.

If it's the same time as the third round started, 2am Eastern on Golf channel.

.

Another true story . . .

My wife heard me stirring, and yes, I had awakened and was fumbling for the remote this morning at 4 a.m. thinking she wouldn't notice even if I turned on the giant TV in the bedroom, and I heard, "Don't you dare!"

Haha, as long as she was awake . . . I found out that had a double meaning!

Enjoyed watching Rory at my leisure while fast forwarding the dvr later in the morning (had to stop when I saw Reed and an official, lol).  I couldn't, but yet I could, believe the whiff from the fairway on 18.  He better find more fairways tomorrow.

Golf channel didn’t have a replay today. Anyone know where to find a replay or at least a decent highlight reel of 3rd round coverage?

Only thing I could find:
