PX 5.0 vs Lighter weight Graphite X flex shafts

I wanted to see some comparison here. I found a set of Accra icwt 105 shafts for cheap ($75 shaft pulls, and their pured) and am thinking about pulling the trigger just to try out. They are about the same weight that the project x 5.0s are, which are still extremely stiff shafts for the weight, which Howard enlightened me about.  Not that I was fit for the px’s but they work well enough for me.

I definitely want to try graphite shafts if nothing else just for fun. But I’m curious how these would be in comparison to the shafts I'm already playing.  Im a higher swing speed player (115ish in the driver) but I don’t exactly feel a whole lot in shafts, and manipulate the shafts to work mostly. But I was curious if anyone had made a similar transition to graphite shafts and how it worked out.

I've have similar driver swing speed and have been trying similar weight graphite shafts this year. Currently have KBS TGI 110 installed and they are quite stiff for their weight. It is a similar profile to C-Taper and somewhat similar to PX. I also have a Project X Catalyst 100 6.5 that I will build in a 4 iron to test. I think they are supposed to be 107 grams. With the Catalyst being PX, I am assuming that the profile will be similar to their steel shafts. Can be found cheap on the bay if there still any listings.

If you like DG profile then maybe also look at the MMT 105 TX. I think those are 113 grams.

I've had bad luck with some graphite under 110 grams. Namely TGI 100 and LAGP A Series Low X. The LAGP A felt like a wet noodle especially in the short irons. Might be something to do with it being parallel.

Hopefully there's a place nearby that you can try a few.

Part of this is that I am most likely going to get a shaft blind. I found a set of ICWT 105 (which are their x flex offering) for $75 for 5-PW (they’re even pured, which I know is a ripoff but still) and honestly am debating trying those sight unseen.

I really haven’t tried anything other than the PX 5.0s really. So I have no gauge as to what actually works for me haha

I made the transition late last year, because of elbow issues.  Went from Tour Elevate Pros X100 to Steelfiber i95 stiff.  The lighter weight makes me smooth out my transition, which is not a bad thing.  I really like them and can't say it was an issue changing.  My driver SS is 108-114 depending on the day.  Steelfibers hold up well.

Hopefully you get a chance to demo or test a few if you go further down the rabbit hole beyond the Accras because for the most part graphite shafts are cheap. Especially if you don't have a shaft puller when you realize it didn't work out.

Yeah, I'm not sure I expect to go deep down a rabbit hole.  I really am hesitent to even buy these, since I'm cheap and my current Shafts are working just fine, but $75 seems like too good of a deal to pass up.  But who knows.  At some point I'll actually get fit (maybe) and have a set of irons that will last me for a long time (I do really want a set of i210/i230's though, that's probably what I'll get next since a local pga tour has a set of i210's that I hit amazing for 400).

$75 is a super deal

As far as flex, I wouldn’t worry about, “since my swing speed equals ——therefore I should hit ——- flex shaft. “

im around 113 mph with a driver and 92mph with a 7i and I play Steelfiber i110 Regular flex

if the PX 5.0’s feel right, you might like a Steelfiber i110r, KBS TGI 100 ss/x1, a PX Catalyst 100 6.0.

I’ve never hit the ACCRA graphite iron shafts, but if they are anything like their wood shafts, they are smooth, for what it’s worth.

I think they might be in the same ballpark and worth a $75 experiment. Which PX shaft are you playing? I assume you are playing Project X Rifle 5.0’s, so if I had to guess I would say they’re still likely to feel a little stiffer than Accra 105 x flex graphite. But they could also feel close to the same. I don’t think it will be wildly different since the Accra is X flex, and just a little lighter, right? (Rifle 5.0 weighs 110g?)  It’s a very individual thing.

Weight being close helps a lot. If the Accras are in good shape that’s a reasonable blind match and you always can build one club to test the shaft. Probably easy to move the Accras and get your money back if they don’t work.

And good for you being a high speed player who realizes that Project X 5.0 is a lot of golf shaft, probably the stiffest regular flex golf shaft out there.

Look for Project x graphite irons if right above 80 grams is the right wgt range. They was made just like the steel shaft for profile and flex, and was the stiffest graphite iron shafts in its wgt range.

its the BLUE model im talking about, now discontinued, so if you find them the prices should be low

Oh interesting. These might be worth looking out for.  I think id ideally stay in the 100g weight range but it looks like they do have a tour issue 100g shaft. Not sure how easy it would be to find them though. These would be fun to play around with.

Yeah I’m in the rifle flighted 5.0s.

yeah it’s slightly lighter depending on what the cut weight of these shafts are. According to what Howard posted in another thread the cut weight for the px flighted I’m in ranges from 103 in the shorter irons to 109 in the longer irons.

I actually didn’t realize it. I was educated by Howard in another thread when I talked about it being a regular flex shaft haha.   I’m not actually sure that lighter weight is really best for me. I’ve tested out some used clubs with modus 120x that felt fantastic to me. I watched a few videos on TXG with them fitting Mac Boucher and talking about how he basically can’t feel differences in shafts and how he just manipulated everything to work for him. I feel the same way. I’m not picky with my shaft feels/stiffness.

I consider the PX 5.0 to be an 'S' flex, based on it's full bend profile.  5.5 S+, 6.0 X

They officially chart as 5.0 = Reg, 5.5 = Stiff, 6.0 = Stiff+ 6.5= X, 7.0 - Tour

No, it never did

When TT bought Royal precision, they has a conversion for RIFLE FCM that is softer than RIFLE Project X.

That chart looks like this

5.0 = R+ / FIRM

5.5 = S

6.0 = S+

6.5 = X

7.0 = X+

7.5 = TX

project X has always been "said to be" half a flex stronger (even if its more than only half a flex), so Project X would look like this.

5.0 = S

5.5 = S+

6.0 = X

6.5 = X+

7.0 = TX

The conversion charts was for average conversion between this 2 RR models, and True Temper Black Gold and Dynamic Gold only.

if we put up models like DynaLITE, we would have to make a new conversion chart since they are softer than BG & DG

But we cant compare different shaft models by flex labels, not even among difderent PX models where all uses a number

PX 5.0 is simply "PX 5.0"

while PX LZ 5.0 or PX LS 5.0 or PX IO 5.0 is not the same flex, it only tell where they belong in their own model series, so they could just as well had letters like A B C D, still without beeing compatible with other shaft model
