Father / Son trip to Scottsdale in March

Getting a chance to make a special trip to AZ in March with my son who is a senior in high school and will be graduating this Spring.  We are going with 3 of his high school teammates who all played on the golf team, along with their Fathers.  Out of the 4 young men, my Son and 2 others are committed to play next year in college and this is celebration for the season they have had along with graduation and what is to come.  All of the 8 have been to Scottsdale before, we were there for Spring Break in 2018 & 19 so pretty familiar with most of the courses.  Some of the Fathers may have connections for access to some of the upper tier privates, but we have assembled a rota to ensure that we have times.  We know that we are in coming in high season ($), but want to make this special trip.

Here is the current schedule:

Saturday 3/11: Arrive from Nashville and hang out at hotel (Phoenician)

Sunday: Grayhawk Talon (I am excited on this as I have never played Grayhawk and with the NCAAs...)

Monday: Quintero (the other on the list my Son and haven't played)

Tuesday: We Ko Pa (Cholla AM, Saguaro PM)

Wednesday: Eagle Mountain

Thursday: Southern Dunes

Friday: Troon North - Pinnacle

Saturday: Heading home but time to get a AM round

Again, some of this may change if connections come through for privates, but is there anything that you would change out / substitute?  Thanks to the forum as a number of you have helped to plan out our previous trips to AZ.

Great schedule - I assume these are locked in.  The only potential change I see is swapping am/pm at Wekopa.  Cholla is colder (so am round is chillier) and Sagauro is more picturesque in the evening.

Note:  Grayhawk plays the NCAAs on Raptor.  But personally, I really enjoy Talon.  So nothing wrong either way.

Saturday - Raven, Longbow or Papago would be a decent round options to be close to airport.

Agree, this is a good lineup.  Eagle Mountain is not my favorite in the valley, but has some fun holes with cool views.  The rest are amongst the best public in Arizona.

I played Papago today and it was great condition.  On 3/18 in the morning, we have our men's club team championship at Papago but they usually have about 6 public groups go off first.  The course should be great condition with some tricky pin locations.  I think your group would like it and Lou's is a fun spot to grab a bite post round before heading to the airport which is a couple minutes away.

Great feedback, exactly what I was hoping for!  We do have some options on making changes that you suggested - I have only played Saguaro in the AM so that would be a bonus.

You were instrumental in some of our earlier trips - thanks again!

thanks for the suggestion, given the group of juniors, that sounds to be some that would be very compelling!

So a quick update and a question for the group prior departure on Saturday.

Some in our group had private connections, so here is the updated schedule:

Saturday 3/11 Arrive from Nashville and hang out at hotel (Phoenician)

Sunday: Grayhawk Talon

Monday: Desert Mountain (Geronimo)

Tuesday: We Ko Pa (Saguaro AM, Cholla PM)

Wednesday: Quintero

Thursday: Southern Dunes

Friday: Troon North - Pinnacle

For the forum - we have options to play the following on Saturday the 18th as I waited too long to book and the group wasn't sure they wanted to play.  Out of the following, what would be the pick:

Legends Trail

Whirlwind (either course)

Sunridge Canyon

I would choose in the order you have listed.   For Whirlwind:  Devils Claw, then Cattail

But if you find that you want to avoid 'housing courses' and a little more open and peaceful area, then Whirlwind is better...no houses, less noise.  Plus the practice facilities and the 19th are head and shoulders far superior to LT.

And if you want to beat yourself up before you leave AZ - then play Sunridge.

Thanks so much for the quick reply.  We are also considering doing an early morning round at Monument as pre-8am rounds are available.  4 of the 8 have never played golf in AZ, so leaving on a lesser note is something some of us have brought up with the others.
