A second bag for all the stuff I tend to forget

Recommended Posts

I am very forgetful. I forget things all the time. Knowing this, I am trying to bail myself out ahead of time by making a backpack full of all the things I tend to forget. Below is the list of thing I have shown up to the course without. What else should I add?

Edit: I don't have a set car that I drive. Because of kid stuff and depending on the day, I drive one of two cars. And, a lot of that stuff is supposed to be in my bag, but Balls/tees/divot tool etc get used or left in my pocket after a round (because I'm forgetful) and then I don't have them.

Balls
Tees
Divot repair tool
Glove
Hat
Shoes
Socks
Sunscreen
Empty water bottle
Wrench
Ibuprofen

What happens when you forget to restock the backpack?

Why don't you just keep all of those things in your golf bag?

Because I'm trying to balance walking more with being weak and out of shape.

I actually really like this idea... I think I'll have a backpack packed as well going forward

Over 30 years ago, I adopted an idea from an old timer at the club where I worked... and still use it to this day.  This fella worked at a bank and actually brought me an old school bank bag with a zippered opening to use because I liked the idea of the one he had.  Inside the bank bag are odds and ends that you might need on a golf course in a pinch but don't use regularly.  I kept and still use that same bank bag over 30 years later. It slides neatly into the garment pocket of my bag.  Some of the contents many of you have mentioned before:

  • band-aids
  • athletic tape
  • spare sets of daily contact lenses
  • shoestrings
  • tees
  • divot tools
  • replacement spikes and spike wrench
  • driver adjustment tool
  • sunscreen
  • lip balm
  • ibuprofen
  • sharpie
  • ball markers

I have nearly the same items in a Ping valuables pouch.  Unless I decide I might try to summit Everest during the 4 hours I am away from my car, this is all I'll ever need.

Aside from hat, shoes, and socks (and maybe sunscreen) I feel like everything else you listed should already be in your golf bag.

Seems to me it would make a lot more sense just to leave those three things in your car instead of trying to remember to take and restock an extra bag every time you want to play...

I think the list is pretty good. You could keep this bag in your vehicle all the time. This is pretty much all of the stuff I have in my locker at my club.

I’d consider adding Goldbond powder and or Goldbond cream or some Body Glide if you’re walking a ton. And if you’re just leaving it in your car, I’d consider some things like rain gloves or hand warmers.

I might do this with a Puma shoe bag that I got. I have a tendency to forget a towel. I've forgotten socks more than once because I keep my shoes in the garage and usually wear flip flops to the course. Sun screen is a big one for me, I usually keep one in my bag but I understand trying to save weight. I'm also trying to start walking more this year so getting as much stuff out of the bag as possible will help with the weight management.

Start with a routine to help with the forgetfulness. Between the 18th green and the clubhouse/parking lot, put your bag down, empty your pockets and put everything back in the pocket it belongs in. Count and wipe down your clubs. Get to the car, change and wipe down shoes.

When you get to the house, unload bag and replenish anything that is running low from the bag. Tees, balls, sunscreen, etc.

If you still need the bag as backup, or just as a place to store your golf stuff, I'd keep it only to things that you use somewhat regularly (i.e. if you haven't needed an item on the golf course in the last two years, don't keep it stocked in the bag). There's no need to store everything that you might possibly need in it. If you start doing that then you're going to end up with a disorganized junk bag, not a golf item bag.

I have a small gym bag stored under the rear seat in my truck.

Complete change of clothes and winter gear.  It could be 60 at 6 in the morning and 39 at 5pm.  Rain is spotty this time of year also.  I also keep extra tees and little items in it just in case.

I don't want to weigh my bag down with a ton of extra stuff and it has come in handy a couple times this year so far.
