Swingweights

i have hard times finding the right clubs fro the right price so i may go the route of findings the clubs, swapping the shaft . The clubs im looking for is Srixon 585 irons . If i want a similar swingweight tot eh one i got know ( callaway steelhead xr , kbs tour 90 stiff) , is there a DIY to do it ( or close) if i dont have a scale .. And if one of the club would be with a graphite shaft ( 5 irons)

You'll need some epoxy, some brass or lead weights, a torch and some ferrules and acetone. And a swingweight scale. Good to also have a hosel cleaning brush to get old epoxy out. 

 

Go check out golf works (currently down for maintenance). They have some hobbyist sets and all the stuff above. Honestly it would be cheaper to take them somewhere and have them do it, just depends where you live. Someone has a recommendation. 

 

Anywhere near Michigan is Carl's Golfland or Miles of golf (Ohio as well)

Just buy some lead tape and hit the range.  When you apply it on the back of the head, do so in small strips.  Add a strip till the club head is noticeable in your back swing, but the club doesn't feel excessively head heavy.

 

IMO - easier to buy a scale, they are not really expensive, -$60 up.  They make the process easier but more important consistent.

Canada , near Montreal . Some store charge me around 30$ a club to install 1 shaft .  i was getting good at doing it, but irons are more complex than driver shaft with adapter

lots of free swingweight calculators which will do the job perfectly, provided you take accurate measurements.

Good to go by feel and performance when switching components, lead tape route, rather than needing to hit a specific swingweight based on a different build.

Just echoing to reinforce what others have told you.

 

Do not try to duplicate a SW value of a club with a different shaft (or playing length or grip weight).   Just build one test club first and take it to the range (usually mid iron).  Use lead tape to dial in head weight feel.   Then you can measure it and use that swing weight value to build the rest of the set (or even go back and replace the lead tape with tip weights on the test club).

 

As others have said, there are work-a-rounds to not having a swing weight scale - but if you plan on continuing in this hobby, even an inexpensive swing weight scale is a good investment.
