Changing balls for Kapalua??

My wife and I are heading to Maui in a few weeks, and I'm planning to play the plantation course while I'm there. I've heard the wind can get pretty intense there, and I was wondering if it'd make a difference to switch to a mid-launch ball over my current preference (2021 TP5x).

I'm currently a 2.8, and I generally tend to have a higher launch trajectory. Works great for me where I play locally, but I wonder if that might not be as beneficial at Kapalua when the wind starts to rip.

You're playing a round of golf while on vacation. Just play your normal ball. No need to overthink things.

I’m currently on the Big Island. I usually play Maxfli Tour’s here as they have a moderate height profile as compared to a V1x / TP5x type. For very windy days, I carry Bridgestone e6’s. While I think they’re a rather extreme solution, they are one of few models that are obviously advantageous if your shot has curvature compounded by wind direction.

Other solutions might be AVX’s or V1’s, which tend to have lower trajectory vs. the majority of similar compression models.

I don’t think it will matter. Only difference would be clubbing up or down 1 to 2 clubs on those windy shots but for the majority, the ball you play won’t make a difference. Play the ball you play.

I was recently there, Plantation is my favorite course, played it too many times to count.  The winds there are NOT like the winds in SOCA or other places.  Maui's trades are fast and slow, seldom constant, easy to pierce with a boring trajectory.  Been a low of 2, now 4, I've never changed from DASH -ProV1x.  Last trip one-day trades were up, some holes necessitated 3-4 club increase, but the winds were not troublesome.

 

Though putts for main-landers in general increase to 4-5, the greens are NOT by and large fast; only fast on the down grain portion, otherwise stimp 10-10.5.

Being a 2.8 index you know how to hit shots, thats gonna be more important than a ball change.  Play you're normal game and embarrass any difficulty the wind plays on your round.  Enjoy the course, definitely one id like to make it out to someday.

Enjoy the game without getting wrapped up in what ball to use. The course and scenery will take your breath away.

I played there in August one summer and it had to be blowing 30.  It was silly. It doesn’t matter how low flying a ball you play.  Even my putts were getting moved by the wind.  I recommend getting what they sell in the shop with the cool butterfly’s on them.  I got the TM but I think they had other top balls with the logo.  I rented clubs too.  I wasn’t hauling my stuff to Maui.  I just brought my shoes.  The rentals were current Titleist’s and a Scotty putter.  This was 2011 though.
