PXG Gen 5 X Driving Iron

Anyone have any thoughts on PXG's new driving iron? Been a big driving iron guy the last few years and can't seem to find one that I can stick with and love. Played everything from the T200 utility build (which was not forgiving enough for me), to the mizuno fli hi (too chunky, couldn't get along with the look/ balance felt like it was way too toe heavy), to the srixon ZX (hated the sound, but probably the best of the bunch), to now the NLU-01 utility. Love the New level it just looks way too chunky for me to feel like I can get one clean off the deck.

My thought is the PXG is nice and slim but is supposed to have pretty good forgiveness. Let me know what you think. Only seeing the shaft options online, may have to switch out the Ventus blue i have in the NL with whatever I get from PXG if I like the head.

I have the gen4 version which to my knowledge the gen5 is a little more forgiving. I love mine, seems forgiving enough. Thinner top line and little offset, whats not to like?

I have Gen 4 but tried Gen 4 and 5 in my iron fit. I went Gen 4 just cause I didn’t see any difference in iron or driving iron. Different look, slightly softer feel (personal preference), but both solid. Fits the “T” line very well (I play X, 4-P).

Only curiosity is if they release a new one with new irons. maybe wait a month and see? Then Gen 5 May discount.

I've got the Gen4 X as well, which is really good, but its sitting in my closet hardly used because their hybrids are just really really good and it can't find a spot in my bag. Heard they're coming out with a line of driving irons instead of just one offering in 2023. Guess we'll find out over the next couple of months.

Oh wow I had no idea they were almost a year old. There aren't any PXG spots around me so I have very little exposure to them really other than the ads. Good looks, I think I can manage to wait a bit longer for a new line to see if the price drops....... running a good deal on them right now tho......

Hopefully they keep the thin profile and little offset for each loft offered

I had a Gen5 for part of last year. I really liked it, but would caution you about a couple of things. One, it comes pretty upright, or at least too upright for me. And two, with a GD DI 85X, it felt really light. I didn't have a swing weight scale at that point, but I'd be shocked if it was even D0. The outcome was, it was just too prone to hooking for me.

If I was doing it again, I'd order it at a specific SW, about two degrees flat, and might think about asking for added weight in the toe.

Mirrors my experience, I had the tensei white 90x and it was C9. Went to the pxg store by me and did the spec check to heavy it up. (Had them make it too heavy as I wanted to replace the shaft anyway)

Just to follow up, ended up bidding on a gen5 x iron with a ventus blue VC shaft on ebay for a decent price and totally love it. Could be the shaft or me, but def not as low launching as I read it was and just as forgiving as the srixon zx/mizuno hi fli but with a much thinner body and barely any offset

That’s great to hear. I still love my gen4. I’m likely getting 0317STs when gen6 comes out, might upgrade to the new offering if it’s similar.

I've had the Gen5 since it came out and I agree that it's just as forgiving as the Srixon, which I also own.  The biggest plus for me is the ease with which you can hit it high or low.  It's a rocket launcher if you want it, or high and soft.

ups says it will be here friday.  only had a brief experience with OG Taylormade UDI and Srixion U65.  I doubt it will be in bag full time, but might find a spot for a specific course.
