Open just means without restriction. In the case of an event; amateur, pro, or mixed; that includes divisions based on the age of participants, the use of an Open divisions is not uncommon. The other alternative may be using something such as the Championship division, but as the current participants have an issue with Amateur, they may have an issue with Championship for opposite reasons.

As the OP is talking about a playing division within a county tournament, Not naming the event the County Open or County Invitational. The odds of confusion are probably pretty low when it comes to the distinction or participation of pro's in the tournament, Especially for those not already participating.

Let's use one of the big Opens as an example. The U.S. Open has no age restrictions. Not young, not old. Truly "open".

A better argument would have been what the hell is the U.S. Senior Open then?

But you're missing the point that we're not discussing the name of a tournament, rather divisions within a tournament where some of these divisions have age restrictions.
