Best Players Irons 2023

3 pages and only 2 mentions of the Wilson Staff CB irons. There are lots of good options out there but the Wilson Staff CB irons should be included in any quest for the perfect players iron. They are compact low offset irons that feel great and offer excellent distance control.

if these have already been mentioned my apologies but I'd definitely give i59, i230, an combo of mizzy 221/223/225 options depending on ur ball striking an being a picker I'd look at srixon a look their sole design is superb. I play i59s an love them but will be combing in i230 in the 5i an 4i golf's hard enough y not give urself some forgiveness in the longer ones. although the thought of 221 p-7 an 225 in 6,5,4, an a couple fli hi utilities makes my mouth water  lmao

Wilson Staff Blades, low bounce, great for pickers, one of the best looking clubs out there….they are nit 2023, by close.  Also, the Titleist T200, I play both….

To me, the CBs are the best feeling of the cavity back lineup from Titleist. They are the closest feeling to your MP20s but with a slight amount of help. I think they are understandably overlooked because of the additional forgiveness (real or perceived) that are in the T100.

If you played the MP20’s, you may find the balance of the CBs more to your liking as you’re likely used to the traditional weight in heel. As always, you just have to hit everything to see what you like but I would overlook these. They feel great, look great, and are a pure iron - you get out what you put in. If I had the time to play more, I would probably be bagging these but I need additional help since I only get to play about 40 rounds a year and I never know what game I’m bringing to the course.

Agree here. I have the 718 CB’s, 19’ & 21’ T100 the later of which are my gamers but the CB’s feel the best when hit on the button.

I went through a fitting last week, and like you I am a picker.  For me it came down to the new P7MC and Callaway TCB.  As has been noted through the thread, the new Cobra stuff needs to be in the conversation too.  The T100/100s are great as well, but didn't perform as well for my swing.  In the end it was the feel of the TCB that I could not get over, and that is where I went.

Not knowing your skill level, or comfort with long irons, I would also consider looking at things that may combo well in the longer irons.  I think this is where the Cobra rise to the top this year, along with Srixon ZX mkII (but the v-sole can be tough for pickers).  I was very disappointed in the new Taylormade P-770, so I was not looking to combo with those.  I was VERY tempted to almost go a 4 way combo with Cobra, doing MB in PW and GW, CB in 8-9, Tour 6-7, and Utility 4-5.  They all flow together really nicely, and would look seamless through the bag.

If it's distance control you want then I don't think there is a better iron out than the i230.  Every time I demo that iron I am wowed by how good it is on good strikes and even mis hits...  All within range of each other.  I should have mine Friday and will game them next week so we will see if indoor stats are truly indicative of their capability.

I think the PXG ST irons are great! Minimal offset with a nice looking top line. They don’t play like a blade, and are pretty dang forgiving and feel awesome with lots of shot workability.
The T100 are great too.. At address they almost look like a blade with the minimal offset and thin top line but they are much more forgiving then a actual blade iron.

I wish the 620 weren’t 4 years old, very tempted to buy them.

I don’t see a problem with a 4 year old iron. Titleist CB irons don’t change much from generation to generation. The 718 model was the biggest departure every other generation is highly similar. You should be able to get a good deal on them.

I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on a new set.

Thinking of Cobra CB, Wilson Staff CB, 620CB, i230, or JPX 923 tour,

I pretty much in the same boat. Down to Cobra, JPX and 620. They all look awesome, and feel pretty much the same (feel is outstanding). No clue what to do, very solid CB offerings right now.

So what are we up to 20 different best players irons now?

Thank you…..i can tell you the exact mentions and quotes in every single one of these threads …….

In true WRX fashion-buy each set of all them mentioned…. Like all 20, play them and then hang onto half them… play a different set each week…. Then in November  decide on your gamers just in time for all the new stuff to drop.

seriously. Can we start an equipment bank… we dump a 5-7-9 iron of each of these 20+ sets into it….. everyone whom starts this type of thread can simply buy the bundle and circulate it….

in fact, i am going to start renting some my sets out for trials. ..,

I think it just goes to show there is no “best”. It just all boils down to personal preference.

Exactly…. I think there is value in asking the forums about experience between two specific sets if you are stuck between two or three based on a fitting….. but the broad ….. best of categories gets tough….. different strokes for different folks …. Literally.

I should've waited and got the Callaway TCBs they are simply amazing, I play the Apex Pro 21, not as soft but very forgiving, truly love them, but if I had the choice I would get the TCBs for sure...

I can post my feedback in about a week or so, have a fitting lined up at club champion. I know fitting indoors isn't ideal for several reasons, but I'll at least have a relative comparison to give you. I have T100's right now and these are going to be tough to beat, as I feel like they are the best overall iron when it comes to looks, feel, forgiveness.

Hitting more greens this year is my #1 goal, which does come down to driver a bit more, but I want to ensure my irons are as dialed in to my swing as possible. I can post back here if you'd like with some data and subjective feedback. I plan to try:

- 223's

- i210's

- new ZX7

- Cobra Tour

- if they have them, TCBs

- Maybe 7MC but they don't appear to have as much MOI as others above

I really think irons can be divided into irons for pickers and diggers. As a fan of lower bounce I can never play the srixon 7 series. Not because it’s not a great iron, jus tint for my swing. I’m trending for the 223 irons but keep going back to the 620cb as well.

Also , more of a picker with the irons.  Lets hear suggestions..

I’ve got a fairly shallow AoA as well.  Have owned P7MB’s, P7MC’s, TCB’s and T100’s.  I feel it’s hard to beat the look and relative forgiveness of the T100’s. Fairly high spin heads for me, I did best with pairing with PX LS 6.5 (I’m likely on the borderline at 92mph 7 iron) but feels great.   TCB’s are very solid feeling but a bit clunkier if that makes sense
