OG Ping Tour 65 vs Which Ventus?

I’ve been using the Ping Tour65x since I got my G410 LST, and tbh, its just about perfect for me, I’ve dabbled a bit with trying lighter and longer, but I always come back to. Obviously, can’t watch any golf with out seeing someone playing Ventus, so my question is, players who’ve played the Tour65, which Ventus model would you say would be the easiest transition. Thanks

Someone on here recently posted they were told by Ping that it's similar to the Ventus Velacore Black.  i can't remember if they were referring to the Original Ping Tour, or the new one that was released this year.

I believe that the Tour 2.0 Black that’s been added this year, is the one similar to the Ventus Black, I gave it a hit when demoing G430 and its a bit stout for my liking

Yes, I think you're right.  This might not help much, but I also remember several on here saying the Ping Tour was similiar to the UST Elements chrome.  (UST made this shaft for Ping)  If you can find the specs for that, you may be able to compare it to the Ventus products.

Only one guy’s anecdotal experience, but I just demoed the G430 this past weekend, and currently play G410 Plus with a Tour (chrome) 65x. Hit drivers with Ventus Velo Blue and Black 6x. I did not (unfortunately) hit the Tour 2.0 Black (and now wish I had!) but the 2.0 Chrome feels like it’s pretty much the same.

The Tour 65 feels maybe a bit more stout than the Blue for me, but clearly not as much as the Black. The tip in the Black (especially) is much more stable than the Tour. I’d definitely think the Blue or the Blue TR would be a good general reference point comparison, but no EI curve on the Tour Chrome shaft to be able to call out nuances.

For what it’s worth, I have no trouble hitting the Tour comfortably/smoothly (maybe between 105 and 110 for me) and getting a generally good result, but I have a hard time stepping on it and making the same quality of contact when my swing gets up into the 110-115 range. My transition is more on the aggressive side with a moderate-to-quick tempo (everything obviously gets more aggressive when I swing faster).  Biggest difference with the Black is that I feel like I could step on it as hard as I wanted and wouldn’t lose the contact quality, and I definitely attribute that to the stiffness in both handle and tip of the Ventus Black.

Left the demo feeling like I’m very happy with my 410+ and Tour 65 combo, and do not feel the need to change into what they ‘fit’ me for, which was a G430 Max with Ventus Blue. Fitter didn’t have the Black for sale with Ping adaptors (this was a big box store), but acknowledged Black was probably a better fit, so if I go with a new driver this year it will likely be a 425 Max with Ventus Black, specifically because it is more stout than the old Tour 65.

Hope that helps!

Another thing, this got me thinking about some of Ping’s top tour players, and I don’t think many, if any play the shaft that Ping supposedly designed to be played on tour. Looking through 5-6 bags from last year, Corey Conners played the UST Elements shaft in a G400, but that was the closest I came.

Not saying the Tour 65 is a bad shaft at all. Just a little interesting and speaks a bit to your point, although Hovland was the only one I noticed of the Ping guys who plays/played Ventus in 2022.

Jeff Maggert and Miguel Angel Jimenez play the PING Tour 65...  I know they are not the "top tour players" you are referring to, but just putting it out there it is played on the Champions Tour.

I was definitely thinking the Ventus TR Blue would be the best one to start with, probably most comparable to the Tour65. Hopefully a few more members can chime in and offer up further thoughts on this

With respect in this case I think naming it tour is a marketing tactic more than something actually expected to be played on tour. It's still a great shaft and better than most other OEM offerings.

I bought a G410LST with Tour 75X off of eBay.

I took it to a local Ping fitting session, and it was super spinny for me (the Tour 65X was even worse). Then they put me in a Ventus Black 7X, and it was a night and day difference for the better.

tl;dr - Tour 65X/75X is the totally opposite of the Ventus Black 6X/7X

The price of the Ventus-ish Ping Tour shaft is quite appealing ($0) to players without sponsors.

I’m sure I’ve read on here in the past that the Tour75 plays very different to the Tour65, many saying it played much softer. I can’t speak from my own experience on this.

I would highly recommend anyone trying the G430 drivers to give the Tour 2.0 Black a try if they are big fans of very stout shafts

The 75 is much softer than the 65. Tip profile especially. Imho the 75 plays at least 1/2 flex softer.
