Most forgiving 7 wood currently for a high handicapper?

JP1000

Recommended Posts

I'm generally ok with my bag, and just grinding to get better (aren't we all); however, I'm thinking of adding a 7 wood.   I'm a high handicapper, not looking to shape my shots, not chasing distance, just point and shoot when I put a (semi) decent swing on it.  I've searched this forum, and the recommendations seem to be all over the place (apologies if I'm not searching properly).   Just trying to come up with a short list and then go try them out.  Prefer recent models, i.e., within last 2-3 years.  Thanks for any input.

PING g400, 410, 425 or 430 fit the bill. If you struggle with a right miss the g425 sft 7 wood is special. Honorable mention goes to the the Callaway Heavenwood 3 wood head size, 4 wood length, 7 wood loft. Depending on your bag setup it’s a great option and what I use currently.

Another vote for Ping. I have the G410 and nothing has been able to match it over the last couple years.

The right answer is any 7 wood is going to be very easy to hit and launch.

But you  will get all the usual suspects mentioned.. as expected.

If you want a less expensive 7 wood, that is SUPER easy to hit and as consistent as anything I've hit, the Tour Edge Exotics are fantastic.

Any reason why the TSR2 doesn’t get a shout or is it too new?

Good question. Here's my useless 2cents.

As a high handicapper you don't NEED something newish. That's just for bag appeal. If you were my friend I'd advise you to get something you know works for great players and something that you know fits you and beat that bad boy until you're good.

You're spot on you do need a "bopper" 20-21º fairway metals fit that you're swing now and where it could potentially be.

An important heads up most adults don't improve a ton beyond their 1st 5 years of playing regularly. Get to work!

I'd suggest something titanium as it'll offer potentially the most distance.

Get something that you like the style of has some cache with your friends or at least people who know and a shaft that fits and you'll be hitting par 5's in 2 in no time!

Personally I'd lean toward Tour Edge but I'm biased. They've worked so well for me that I've stopped actively looking for upgrades. If I was scared of Tour Edge I'd go to the old faithful's Callaway and Ping because they both make great products customer service is great and most people respect them as OEM's.

Titleist TSr2 is my first experience with a 7 wood and it is extremely forgiving for me. I’ve been amazed by it so far. I’ve never had so much confidence from 215-230 out.
