Wilson X/31 - set any good? Worth 10?

Hey all! Been a golfer (30 something now) since my teens, but through discovery of this forum have found vintage sets intriguing in the last few weeks. Guy local to me is selling these for $10, from what I can gather on here these aren’t anything special but should be fun to take out and hit right? Anybody got any details?

Is this a trick question? 😆 For $10 of course you buy and try! Never know what clubs you may end up loving to play, they don’t have to be exotic or expensive IMHO

Thanks, was really more so curious on the exact age. Seller isn’t sure and every X-31 I see has a crown, these don’t. But they have Wilson on the top line like the others. Had searched on here but was just curious if anyone else had played these for fun. Never have hit vintage irons (excluding the Titleist DCI981s) I used to have), assuming I can use regular vice pro plus on these too?

Ball makes little difference with irons.  Persimmon woods is where the softer ball comes into play. $10 is a “take my money” price.

From a quick look thru the ID and Price Guide, they are 1977 vintage.  Only iron description with the X31 in a diamond on a plain back that I see.

I agree with Snowbird, these are from 1977.

There were many X-31 models from the mid 60's on. 

Originally they were quite premium and cost more than some of the Dynapower and Staff models but as time went on they moved down the range and became a mid market model.

By 1977, the 1200 model was retailing at $294 (3-Pw), the stunningly beautiful Staff's at $284 and the X-31's at $238.

Thanks everybody! With respects to a price guide or source, does anyone have a link? really appreciate the help.

 

I ended up picking these up again for $10. A little rusting on two of the heads but the grooves look great. Some of the grips are torn but that could be replaced. Curious to see what they feel like hitting!

Above pics are sample of the lot of the condition. Worst is that the pw and one of the irons, has some rust to the top. I’d say the grooves are in pretty good shape, don’t really look like they’ve been hit much at all? 

Already had a vintage blade putter, looking forward to putting some period correct woods with it, and am acquiring a vintage bag for the lot tomorrow.

Yes you are correct. Figured for $10 I’ll see if I can hit ‘em, and if so, I’ll regrip. Haven’t had a chance to hit the range yet
