Because their stuff does what it's supposed to do. I've never been able to get into Ping's aesthetic but have a ton of respect for their engineering. No one has anything as good as the hydrophobic coating they came up with. Unprecedented wet grass performance.

P.S. TM gives substantial weekly bonuses for driver play & that's a big reason a lot of uncontracted players play their drivers. They might not be better but they're not worse than the other options, so why not take the cash?

I don’t think they do that as much anymore.

I hope he plays well but at the speeds he produces that driver can be a problem for him as it’s not the most forgiving but for center strikes, it’s prob the fastest ball speed out there.

Anyone know if he’s playing it at 8* or does he have it dialed down even more?  I have to think he’s playing it lower.

We are into February, Bryson has not played since the last LIV event last year and they are still "in discussions". Now, I am never likely to ever play a Cobra product but they would definitely go up in my estimation if they got rid 🙂 At this point, and whilst I know it is never going to be the case, I wish Titleist were making Bryson pay for the left dash that he is using!

I think the split, likely to be long term, has been brought on my both parties. Cobra may not be aligned with the LIV stuff, as well as Bryson's form dipping and not to mention the negative press he brings by slating the clubs instead of bigging them up.

For Bryson its simple - he has more cash than he knows what to do with, so whats the point in being tied to a manufacturer for small change when all you do is moan about their product, for relative small change? At least now he can try whatever he wants and not be constrained to a small set of heads.

He is clearly rusty going by current score, although so is the world beating Cam Smith.

Bryson +7 after 2 rounds at Saudi

Well the dude only cares about how far? And speer training. Just become a long driver then. Hes obviously pretty good at golf but he has to relax with this speed stuff and focus on entire game and maybe mental game. He clearly has ability to be great but all this fast work on his body also won't last long. Getting paid upfront probably is his worse problem when ur paid boat loads before u even play why should he play his best other then majors? It wont translate for any of the liv guys imo tho.

I heard this recently from another manufacturer about the LIV guys. He basically said that they aren't going to drop anybody but when their contract is up they probably won't be resigned (or if they do, at a significant discount.) obviously that was one guy from one OEM but this seems to track right along with that.

Out of all the top LIV players I can only think of Cam Smith who doesn't appear to have been dropped as such. Although Titleist don't always market their players as aggressively as other OEMS such as TM. Poults dropped by Titleist, TM quiet on their LIV players and they werent in any of the TM marketing in recent times. It may take a couple of years for OEM's to put trust back in to LIV players, as of now it may be a bit risky to be associated with them officially.

That’s what happens when you “compete” in scrambles

Ehh..maybe.  But his form has been off for a while.  His last professional win was nearly two years ago at the API.  That's been his only win since what looked like a breakthrough win at the U.S. Open the previous year.  His best LIV finish last year was 10th, which he did twice.

So it looked for a while like the risk he took putting on all that weight and speed training was gonna pay off in a big way - but then the injuries started to pile up.  I give him credit for doing what he did but now he's scaling back the speed training and dropping weight.  Which I think is wise but form can be so fickle.  He's still young so there's plenty of opportunity to find it again.

But the game is littered with good players who went chasing something and never found it and then never returned to the form they once had.  So time will tell.

Yeah, I was at Taylormade recently and it was odd listening to them talk about DJ. They didn't avoid it but it was just something in the tone that you could tell they weren't thrilled. Maybe I was putting my own spin on it and kinda hearing what I wanted to hear...but others had the same observation. If they have a contract that is based on exposure and they're no longer on TV every weekend, it certainly changes things.

Bryson is nuts. Cobra has pretty much bent over backwards to make him happy and he still pisses and moans like a spoiled brat.

The LTDX line was a great driver last year. The Aero is another great line for Cobra. Rad wasn't, but they're improving.

I would be completely shocked to ever see Tony leave Ping. Ping for whatever reason tends to be the most brand loyal group on tour when it comes to their drivers and irons and Tony is no exception to that.

Well it could happen. Maybe not quite the "shocker" but was very surprised to see Brooke Henderson leave Ping.

It could be very well cobra dropped him… we dont know for sure. Or they might just be negotiating.

Don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but it looks like Bryson is no longer listed on the tour section of the Cobra/Puma site as of this morning. Cobra is down bad without Bryson and Rickie not playing well. They still have Lexi and signed Woodland and Duf, but they don't really move the needle.

The Cobra rep said that his deal ended at the end of 2022 and he doesn’t have a contract currently

Every major player has a contract based on exposure. PGA Tour players are supposed to play X events a year. If LIV doesn’t bring some serious ratings soon, I don’t see how any OEM can re-sign LIV players when their contract ends for anywhere near what their previous contract was.

Young people might care. He has over 300k subs on YT and has frequently done videos with those Good Good clowns who also appeal to the younger, immature demographic.

They might care but most of them don’t have any money. Especially if they waste time watching nonsense on YouTube

Yea, I would be shocked if PING let Tony walk. Also he started winning after switching to the PLD.

Well him not on staff anymore makes sense mow. Its probably in brysons best interest just to remain a free agent, as he is extremely picky with his equipment. Id much rather see more free agents that a bunch if staffers head to toe in one brand.

Who knows ... Maybe just go to Mike Taylor at artisan and just have him build out a whole set.

That’s a fair point. Her leaving to go to TM was definitely a shock. I do wonder if some of that was due to money though. TM definitely seems to be in the we need to expand beyond PGA tour guys to market our products. Korda and Henderson definitely fit that mold and probably got a check that Ping just couldn’t match.
