Golf Pride Tour Velvet Grip

Has the rubber formula been updated on this grip from years past?  I used to play the Tour Velvet many years ago but changed when they tended to get slick earlier than I liked and thus required constant wiping down.  Watching all the pros on TV it seems like the majority play with this grip.  They must know something.  I'm thinking of going back to this grip but would appreciate a little input from current Tour Velvet users (the standard version, not the cord or Plus 4).  Thanks.

I started buying the grips that resemble these on Amazon.  I can change them out 4 times per year if need be and still be cheaper than regripping all clubs with GP tour velvet once

I used to like them also, but changed for a similar reason as you. I can't comment on how they are today.

 

Seeing as how the pros can get their clubs regripped anytime on demand I imagine longevity isn't a concern for them.

My Tour Velvets are a couple of years old, and, they seem to be lasting ok. I do clean my grips after every round, which, I think helps them last longer. 

I have Tour Velvets that came on my Titleist 818 hybrids, Ping G425 fairway woods and, Titleist T200's, all purchased over a few year span, and, as far as I can tell the grips are all pretty similar. The increase in Pro usage might be due to availability, which, is why I have them on most of my T200's. My 6 iron has a Lamkin Crossline grip.

No doubt, cleaning your grips, especially Tour Velvet will extend their life dramatically. It’s the oils and dirt that turns them slick.

I switched to TVs from the full cord version early last year and love them.  I actually prefer the TV360, but couldn't get them early last year.  Wanted to try a different build up, so installed the TVs logo down.  They held up well, even in hot and humid weather.  I stopped wearing a glove after this change.  I didn't get that many rounds on them (25 or so), but I hit balls at home almost every day.  I had/have a problem with one grip that got hard and slick on my 7 iron, and refuses to "tacky up" again.  No idea why.  I wipe them down after every on-course round.

Thanks for the helpful replies. I see the TV cord is now only available for Tour - not general public. Glad I don’t play cords.

I’ve noticed the same.  Seems to be more aggressive and looks like it’ll wear out faster.  Switched to Crossline.

I don't know why I always feel Crossline is wayyyy more aggressive on the hands than TV.  Not necessarily a bad thing if you want crazy traction but my hands get beat up just practicing short game with a crossline grip

Thanks. I agree about the "traction".  I've tried other grips and a slight mis-hit is hard on the hands. I don't wear a glove but I play lots of golf so my hands should be well conditioned.  I'll be switching to the Tour Velvets since over half of all Tour Players use it. They must know what works.  Soft enough but allowing good traction and feedback. If I could get one wish from Golf Pride it would be to make a Tour Velvet with a couple rings of the "pebbly" rubber tread that's on the MCC grips.

Also gotta say I've moved away from the GP Tour Velvet, moved to the Karma Velour Revolution in the midsize. Just slightly larger than the standard GP Tour Velvet and they perform (for me, at least) very similarly. Cost significantly less.
