Q: do many pros concern themselves with consistent static club-weight progression?

i just watched a couple YT videos of pro irons getting built up in the tour trailers....they just focused on the parts, length, loft, lie, and swingweight...there was no consideration for static club weight. 

not that it matters to my game in the end, but i'm pretty persnickety about building my irons with exactly 7g static weight progression along with equalized D3 swing-weights, as the OEM factory weight progressions can be a f*cking mess!  

i figure if you're going to the trouble of building them up, might as well take as many variables out of the equation as possible...and why wouldnt pros do likewise?

I'm sure some are very particular but most know the length, shaft, grip, and swing weight they like and don't deviate from that, I wouldn't imagine seeing a huge difference in static weight keeping all those things the same. Tour heads are all labeled with specs so it should be pretty easy for those experienced builders to nail specs for them.

Don't you "need" somewhat consistent weight progression to get consistent swingweights? Meaning they kinda go hand in hand.

one would think but does not necessarily happen.

i've had 2 neighboring clubs in the same "matched" set of irons with the same SW from the factory, but only 1g different static.

given the pros get the best of the best parts with the tightest specs, they probably do get proper static progression w/o needing to think about it.

Probably depends on the player.  What I know from purchasing lots of stuff from Tour vans,Will Peoples, ebay tour issue stuff, is iron heads, wood heads, drivers, shafts, etc...--  every individual component has the weight measured and written on it, even down to the tenth of a gram sometimes.

 

If they want everything perfectly consistent, they can do it.  Totally up to the player.  I remember watching an old video of the guys at the Oven building irons for Tiger to test and he could tell if the weight was off by .25 of a gram.  Insane feel.

I prefer to build with static weight progression uppermost and then figure where to put the weight if the SW's are not within 1 pt.  No one can feel 1 SW.  At least no one on here that is honest!

from videos ive seen on WITB with pros, most talk about the feel of the club.  I also noticed that they usually match swing weights in a set of clubs.

Yeah, when I typed that I wasn't thinking that you can make the swingweights match regardless of the component weights.

Never pay attention to static weight although I guess I could. They likely don't focus on it on tour because they get pick of the litter shaft wise as it comes to tolerances. I imagine the individual component weights are known by the builder but it's just not talked about.

Some do, but no one is as anal as a WRXer. 99.99% of golfers just go play golf, pros included.
