BEFORE I found Golfwrx I:

SEP1006

Recommended Posts

Thought it would be interesting to see how we have each changed "whatever" after discovering Golfwrx.

So, before I found Golfwrx I:

1. Would play the same set of clubs for 2 - 3 years, driver included.

2.Would play whatever "stock" shaft came with the club without question. Never even heard of an "aftermarket" shaft.

3.Purchased most if not all golf equipment at Golfsmith. Sold what I didn't need by word of mouth or Craigslist.

4.Would never even touch a computer after work.

5.Never re-gripped a club before or even though about it. Been doing mine and my buddies now for years.

6.Wouldn't know what's going on in the golf world unless I saw/heard it while watching golf on TV.

7.And last for me, would probably have more money.

This forum can make you smarter and dumber at the same time, the number of people on here that buy into the belief that buying new equipment is the sole answer to improving their golf game is a real head scratcher, almost seems like an addiction for some. Not hard to see why golf manufacturers love a forum like this, great for sales.

I am curious about this statement.

this forum consists of some of the most educated golfers on equipment anywhere.

Yes I experiment because I think that certain equipment will perform better… but it’s more of a self fitting concept. I just like to do it in the real world. But i am realistic, is the right driver and shaft going to add 20 or even 10 yards… or even 5…, probably not. Will it tighten my dispersion… most certainly…

but more importantly…. I like trying stuff because it’s about the journey. It’s cool experiencing new things. Trying different clubs. That is part  of the fun of  golf for me….

so before I joined WRX… I had a lot less clubs… more $$…a happier wife…  but never had this much find enjoying the ride…

i think that is like most members on here….

I joined when a was a little kid playing high school golf and became addicted to gear. I’m in all sorts of weird corners of the internet with my hobbies and nerdiness when it comes to being all into them but this site has by far been my favorite. I disappeared for a few years but coming back to the forums and golf in general and nothing has changed. This place costs me so much damn money 😂😂

I was a long time member at BSG.  Tinkered with clubs, although that started in the mid-70's, did a lot of regripping for friends. Learned to rebuild wood woods. Go-to shaft was a Graffaloy Pro-lite.

Glad I was just a college kid when I browsed BSG. I might've had a closet full of candy lime Ozik shafts if I had the dough.

Nothing wrong with that if it's what brings you joy in golf, I've always enjoyed friendly competition, playing new golf courses, and ultimately getting the ball in the hole in the fewest number of strokes. Found I had more success with the later by spending more time practicing (range, putting and chipping), then buying my way into it with new equipment.

The two are not mutually exclusive.

Made me think of the handle name

Part of the fun. Ive found the joy of continuous self.improvement with equipment, even when things are going well and I should leave tinkering alone!

I was less informed and made a lot of poor purchases. Now spend less on hardware than 10 years ago as my clubs are better fitted and I have stopped "buying in hope it works".

I also realise that the average WRX member has 135mph clubhead speed, uses a TXXXXXXXXX shaft tipped 8 inches and could beat an LPGA player with half a set of niblicks.

I would not been reprimanded and actually put in a time out room for saying that I think LIV is a gross, crude thing that has badly damaged professional golf (which is actually a statement that is not even controversial to most of the people I play golf with - but apparently is here).

... I thought my 310-yard average drive was exceptional. Now I know it's just average.

And, my playing partners say I'm delusional....😔
