No, it isn’t a 009. It’s a Tour Newport and is probably from 10+ years ago. We haven’t seen this Tour Newport shape in a while. 
 

I’m thinking maybe the 2012 Select Tour Newport shape?

That's basically what a 009 is and they have been around at least that long, but there do seem to be differences in the topline and flow to the bumpers. Looks most similar to the Studio Stainless shape to me.

Stoked to see Badds continuing to grind it out. Followed him for several holes at the Barbasol Championship in Opelika, AL in 2015. He won it the following year.

 

Had a yearly pass at that course. Played it to death. Those guys destroyed it.

 

While my brother and I were following him, Badds put his tee shot to the left on the 13th, and I got to check out the ole Adams MB2's in the bag.

 

I can't say I've ever identified with the guy personally, like he's not someone I've ever "rooted" for specifically, but I'm always glad to see someone who sticks with it and finds their game again.

The 009 and Newport are very similar but there are differences. These include the shoulders, topline, cavity, sole, width of the body, size of bumpers and the look at address. The 009 is designed after the original Scotsdale Anser. Badds putter is a Newport not an 009, but it looks great. He has always had some great Newports with a beautiful patina on them.

 

From time to time the features of an 009 and a Newport have overlapped (some 009s are an 009r which has a rounded topline like a Newport, or you will see some Newports with the shoulders in the cavity). Scotty has also changed the naming distinctions over the years, which can be confusing. When 009s first came out they were only in carbon steel, while the stainless steel ones were GSS models called the Camico. Now there are stainless 009s too that are not GSS and the Rat and Super rat that use the same 009 shape but are in stainless steel or have GSS inserts. The newest 009s are called 009m for masterful and utilize new milling technology that negates the need to hand grind and soften them. The first 009s usually had hand work done to them which I think is better than simple machining. One of the first 009s was made for Davis Love and you can see it here.

Seems just like his old gamer that he had in the bag for the longest time.  Was always a big fan of the oil can finish from the late 90s or early 2000s.  I think Badds missed out in the Monday qualifier by a shot or two; I think he is still tbd whether he will get in this week.  Impressed he is still getting after it.
