Tommy Fleetwood testing an Axis 1 prototype putter - 2023 Genesis Invitational

Recommended Posts

  • pga43 changed the title to Tommy Fleetwood testing an Axis 1 prototype putter - 2023 Genesis Invitational

Tommy seems to test a lot of putters but always sticks with the White Hot. Wonder what he is thinking he is missing, and then what he doesn't get with the new ones.

@pga43- do you know anything about this putter. Looks like it has a black insert on it from the TV coverage? Thanks!

It does have an insert.  It's a 1 off proto and I was hoping to get some photos of it when he was testing it but Tommy decided ke it and left with it before I could.

Strokes gained putting thru 2 rounds is + 3.24 and he's T-7

Photoi is a screen shot of a video Axis 1 posted on their Instagram page

While it’s not conventional looking, it seems everyone who uses it improves their stats.

The only problem with axis 1 is price, and the headcover is garbage, make a decent cover if you are charging premium.

Performance, it's the best I ever played, and I game pretty much everything, including LAB.

Instead of charging $500+ for the new proto, I would love to see it at $450, and get the Rose and HM down to $350.

What does it make better perform for you than the LAB? If only it weren't so fugly!

Agreed that price hurts them.  Honestly the same thing with LAB.  They are so high most people will just say I'm going to buy a scotty.  Then if you are at all concerned with resale value you are in trouble with them as well.

I did just pickup an HM on a trade here and have to say after a little practice and 1 round I'm very impressed.

I am truly just a hack, but it certainly improved mine. Initially I was put off by the look, but I could not argue with the results. Remarkable in my case.

I’ve never understood this issue. People are spending $600 on a driver that may go 5yds further, but balk at spending the same on a putter that might actually shave a stroke or two off your score….

Seems the Proto is available for pre-order:  https://shop.axis1golf.com/collections/putters/products/axis1-tm-elite

I played the blade version for a minute.  Didn't like it over my Cleveland HB 11.   But since this has a similar head shape maybe I'll get lucky and find a use done somewhere at some point, haha.

The stats don't lie I guess. Certainly his putting dropped off significantly compared with his first three rounds.

Certainly when they showed him yesterday he seemed to be missing several 1-2 footers, however that can be somewhat misleading.

That was most likely a factor of how he drove it, how close he hit his approaches into greens, etc.

Lost .8 on the greens yesterday that doesn't equate to missing several 1-2 footers which isn't true. I have seen your "Axis1 hater" posts in other threads since I personally use the putter. Just looked it up myself. No doubt he started off slow with the putter yesterday. Made a 3' for par on 1. Missed a 6' on 2 for par. Missed 10' on 4 for birdie. Missed a 6' for par on 5. Missed a 3'3" par putt on 6. Made a 26 footer for par on 7. Made a 9.5' birdie putt on 10. 3' for birdie on 11. 5' for bird on 12. 3.9' for double on 14. 4'8" par putt on 15. 3' for 5 on 17. 2' for par on 18. Where are those 1-2 footers you referenced in all of that?

Shock, looks like he’s back using the WH3. Is someone who’s at the Valspar able to confirm?

He had at least 4 putters testing them all.  Odyssey and Cameron putters seemed to be in the mix.

We'll see what makes the "cut" and is in the bag on Thursday.
