2023 Callaway 50% Trade in bonus update

So I happened to be in my local golf galaxy and the Callaway (Sacramento CA region) rep was there. I asked him when they were going to offer the annual 50% trade in bonus. He said based on product orders so far there are no plans to offer it at this point. However, he did admit that they are offering it at green grass demo/fittings. So Callaway is only offering it to country club members, the people who don’t need the break!  All of us working stiffs that can’t afford country club membership get nothing. I say eff ewe Callaway.

Green grass also means public golf courses. My Pro, at a muni course, is a Callaway guy, so I'm guessing if he called the local Callaway rep to do a demo day at our course, which he does a couple times a year, he would offer a 50% trade in bonus. My Pro also sends out emails and posts it on his social media accounts so people who don't play often knows the Callaway rep will be at our course.

Maybe you need to find a Callaway rep local to you. You don't have to be a country club player.....

He was very clear that it was only at “select” green grass accounts which are private clubs. His words not mine and he’s been the rep in this region for over a decade.

If that's the case, then go find a demo day at a private course. Just because it's a private course doesn't mean you can't go to a demo day. At least the case around here in CT..

How does the 50% trade in bonus work?  Trade in your old Callaway (or old driver) and you get 50% discount on new Paradym?  50% extra trade-in value on your old driver?

Deals like this are totally foreign to us in Australia where we get slugged $1100 for a new Paradym driver and $1200 for a new Big Bertha...

Then that would be out of the ordinary.  Nothing wrong with calling the shop, speak to the HP and see if you can set up a time as the sale would go through them.  If you think just showing up a private club and expecting service, well...

Used clubs have a value, get an extra 50% of value on your clubs.

Here’s the trade value for a club I just bought on BST and then didn’t like and sold on BST. My fault for not testing it out first. Regardless, they go for $160-$180 here easily, so the 50% increase is still under used market rates. I don’t check value guides regularly for this reason, but I’ve only seen the extra 50% get up to the point of matching the market on one club ever. I think Callaway does it for country clubs because that’s their demographic that, on average, is more likely to buy the new clubs if they make it super convenient to trade at a figure that at least isn’t insulting.

Trading in clubs is a rip off if you compare to resale market value, even with the 50% value added bonus.

Trade value offers are always 1/2 of the resale, at best.

If you're trading in newer clubs with Callaway, the do offer better $$ than most others, even without the  50% bonus.

The only benefit of the trade in option is convenience in most cases.

On the surface this seems like truth, but with the higher cost of shipping clubs, prevalence of flaky buyers and scammers, etc., many of us will choose the easier/safer route.

I just perused the site and once again I'm wondering if they use some kind of algorithm for pricing. All of the Rogue model drivers are over $400 now that the Paradym is out (though many are probably brand new in plastic).

Callaway is quoting 55 to 60 days to process trade ins!  Yikes! That's excessive!   And probably a great way to work off our money when we trade something in.

Yeah, I ordered a Rogue ST 7W on CPO two weeks ago and they told me about 7 weeks for my trade to process.

I was okay with it though as they’re the only place I know that would take a trade on my Gen3 4&5 irons (not to mention I thought $55 each was very fair). I threw in an older 2 hybrid I had that was collecting dust and the “like new” 7W, which was actually still in the plastic, cost less than $40.

All of Callaways trade-ins for North America go through the same warehouse and theyve been backed up since the huge sales they had around the holidays. IIRC they are hiring like 20 more workers to help with processing of trade ins as Callaway trade in programs have become extremely popular.

The delays are a minor annoyance to me, especially considering their liberal trade and return policies.

Last month I traded in an Apex hybrid *after* I'd received the Odyssey putter I bought. I was given higher value on the trade than the offers I was receiving on the club when I listed it for sale here. Win/win.

I usually put my CPO purchases on PayPal Credit on their "12 months same as cash" offer. When CPO processes my return they send the credit back to PP credit and it comes off what I owe, and I pay off the difference with funds from my regular PP balance. This is an easy way to track where I stand on a deal.

I traded in a few items around the holidays and received at their warehouse first week of January.  I emailed them this week to followup and they said they are still working on trade ins from before Christmas.  Will be my last time trading with them.

Mine was received January 3 and still hasn't processed.  At the one month point I was a little upset, at the 6 week point I emailed them and they replied that it's taking 55-60 days to process and I should be patient for a few more weeks.

As long as it gets processed I'm ok.  I like the deals CPO has and will continue to do business with them.  With that said I would like it to be processed.  I'm the type of person who likes to have things done and over vs undone and having to think about them.  I have confidence the trade will be processed.

People have to understand that these companies are running a business with astronomical expenses (but pretty tidy profits also) and you’re never going to get market value for your stuff, regardless of trade in bonuses. They’re taking on hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of additional overhead when accepting trade ins that they then have to sell.
And it’s super convenient and they never back out of a sale, unlike a lot of ‘buyers’ here.
I’m also not one to tell someone how to spend their own money but if it’s only affordable for someone when there’s a trade in bonus, it might be best to save up a bit until next year and buy new then. Don’t worry, they’ll keep pumping out new drivers.

Could that be because the AUD sucks in value?  At .65 on the USD, 1200 AUD sounds about right.
