Potentially moving to the mesa area for a new job. I'm looking for courses that have a year round all you can play membership and great practice facilities. Are there any good values out there that wont break the bank?

Sorry - AZ doesn't really work like that.   For the most part you have to join a private club.   There are very few public courses with good practice facilities.

 

A couple of courses had a 'Player Development Plan' - they may still have it;  Talking Stick, Raven

Do a search in this forum for experiences from folks.  There is not much in the way of that down here in the EV.   

 

One of the best is Seville, but it is so packed you might never get a tee time. LOL.  The other options are Alta Mesa and Mesa CC.

 

But private courses will run you a ton of $$.

 

You may want to put in a call to Whirlwind and see when they are changing their membership plan - thy have 2 good courses and the best facilities as for public courses.  They were going to have a new type of membership coming.

 

A couple of folks get the Arcis card and play/practice at Raven - with access to some other courses that you may or may not like.

Bear creek has memberships but they sell out immediately and are overpriced IMO, and have stupid restrictions in place peak season. Best cheap membership for Arizonan’s is in New Mexico lol!

Dobson Ranch has a great men's club and city of Mesa residents get great rates and also Papago has a sweet men's club and deal when you get the city card for at least weekly golf options with games

It's just a rough time to join a course in Phoenix area.  Courses that were $5k 4 years ago are now $40k.  Courses that were $35k 5 years ago are now over $100k.  There are long wait lists, and even if you can get it, it likely will be tough to get prime tee times.  Demand went through the roof with COVID.

 

I think most of us on here have seen the ups and down and view this as a significant up for Phoenix area golf courses.  I anticipate things will cool, but it remains to be seen what that will do to golf memberships.   I could probably afford to join somewhere, but the value is really hard to justify unless you are playing at least 3 times per week at the same course.  Instead, as the last poster mentioned, I play two men's clubs (Dobson and Papago) which gets me weekend access with some competition playing by the rules and a nice group of friends, and I don't have to pay monthly dues or worry about an assessment.  Dobson is not a pure golf course by any means, but I enjoy playing there.  Like anything else golf related, you have to sign up when the tournaments open or you won't get a spot.

I would make sure to give a call out to Whirlwind.  I recall hearing they were going to offer some sort of annual membership - but it only had reduced rates; but did have range incl.

Lots of the people in your circumstances are playing a lot of golf at places like Whirlwind, southern dunes, longbow, and even bear creek.  Tee times are easier than private (I am a former Seville member that left because the tee sheet was crazy) and cost overall is actually less.  Practice is the hard part.  I usually take a few extra hours on days I play to hit range after the round and chip and putt.  Depending on where you live you can make it work.  Here in the East Valley I would have been willing to double what I was paying at Seville to have a truly private course.  As it stood (practice options aside) it was like belonging to a muni on steroids.  So many members and waitlist that any questions about freeing up the tee sheet went on deaf ears.  That is just the state of private golf in the East Valley right now.
