Shotscope just launched its new watch

Just bought one with my user upgrade discount. Anyone already in possession of one? Views, reviews and discussion about this seemingly beautiful watch..

How much is it?  I have an adjustable Ping Putter which means I would have to input my putts manually.  My Apple Watch battery doesn’t seem to last a whole 18 holes anymore which I use only for GPS anyway with hole 19, so I’ve been considering either Shotscope or Arccos but the putter issue has stopped me before.  Of course I could always get a new putter too.

Looks like $100 off and retail price of $299 (US$), so $199 for upgraders. The v3 does everything that I need right now, so I'm not sure whether it's worth the upgrade for me.

The in-round scorecard and step tracker are nice additions. I had always hoped that they would eventually add the scorecard feature as a software update for the v3, but I'm assuming there won't be much ongoing v3 development now.

Very tempted, especially if the “new and improved” tags actually work. Single biggest issue for me

with the V3 was missed shots.

I've used the V3 for well over 400 rounds, so I'm pretty familiar with the various ways shots can be missed. If you indicate what types are being missed, I might be able to give you some tips to try. Mine rarely misses a shot currently.

Any and all kinds of shots, tee, fairways, wedges. Doesn’t matter. I do practice swings, but if I don’t remember to actually touch the tag to the strap it misses a ton. I already returned one that was even worse. Good for you that yours is working fine, so if you have any other tips I’m happy to try them out.

Try wrapping your head in tin foil, this will reflect the radiation back to the watch. Haven't had a missed shot since.

Saw the deal, ordered as well. 100$ off makes it worth it, don't know if I would have purchased at full price but for 199$ seems like a no brainer.

I love my v3, but a few things sold me.

- My v3 has enough wear and tear, broke the strap and had to fix with glue, one of the tags snapped and had to glue it, so there is a shelf life.

- Better tags. I don't lose a ton of shots, but on shorter clubs, especially 33inch putter, it misses it a lot.

- I feel like the score tracking feature and green / layup feature is something I'll use a lot.

Lastly, I assume v3 support from now on will be minimal. The v3 is much better today than it was when it first came out, I expect this device to grow a lot. I heard rumblings of a v4, maybe... but my guess is that we will see fewer feature updates on v3 and more focus on X5.

Looking forward to it! Love my v3.

@dodgyman @Mych Is the $100 offer for trading in your old Shotscope watch or just a promotion for existing users to upgrade?

At $200, it seems like a great deal, but for $300, I would want to wait on more reviews.

The last time we didn't have to trade in the old watch, but the upgrade offer was only offered to previous customers.

I agree about them slowing way down on v3 support. It's kinda curious that they seem to be treating each device as a new development rather than having platform features that could be backwards compatible in some cases.

I haven't watched the reviews, but have they made any changes to the charging system? That's the only thing I really dislike about the v3. When mine is a little sweaty/dirty, sometimes the connection with the charger can be very flaky. Unfortunately, I never know that it isn't charged until I'm getting ready to go play and don't have time to charge it before the round.

That's definitely different than the v3's clip-on charger. Kinda curious why they wouldn't go to something standard like USB-C which would make things so much easier.

Agree, this is one thing where the X5 disappoints me. Another proprietary cable..

IIRC, they have stated that moisture can be an issue with USB-C as well as size.

Gavin said that USB-C would be too big/thick and it doesn't have very good moisture resistance.

Fair enough, makes sense.

Have been using Garmin watches for probably 10 years. I do believe they are the best. However, their score analysis is very lacking. I made the commitment last year to go with the V3. I loved the analysis reports especially the shots gained by handicap. Don't need to be compared to a scratch player. However, I really missed the S60 features in the V3. No color, no touch screen, no scoring, etc. And I would spend at least 15 - 20 minutes editing my round to make the data as good as possible. Aside for the statistics, it was the only way I could get a correct score into the system for my round. Ndow with the X5 it looks like they have fixed almost all the lacking features. I believe they still do not have slope. I have the CT-10 3 pack sensors. They work great. However, to add the rest to my clubs I am looking at another $200. If I had known Shot Scope was coming out with the X5 I probably would have waited. Will be interested to see some on course reviews.

Been using a Garmin Vivoactive 3 for years. Seriously thinking about an upgrade. Curious to know if the X5 has basic watch functions like an alarm and timer.  No other activities which is bummer but the shot tracking feature would be great. Also wondering what he next iteration of the S42 will have. If it has a hole map with hazard ID like the S62 I think I would still go that way for the off course features.

Did you wear the watch on your lead hand?  (e.g. if your right handed, it must be worn on your left hand). That's required.

Make sure there are no cracks or breaks in the strap attached to the top of the watch. Also, if you don't have one, get a torx screwdriver (size T4) and make sure the screws holding the strap to the watch are tight, but do not overtighten.
