Masters Traffic Advice PLEASE...

Hey Sticks,

 

I know all about the parking situation at Augusta as that's pretty easy to find online. My buddy won tix this year, but I'm doing the driving from ATL and want to avoid getting stuck in a traffic snarl. What time do you all think one should leave from Atlanta to get to Augusta National without getting stuck?

 

I ask because friends have went in the past, left about 7 am from ATL and were stuck in traffic on 20 for about 2.5 hours. Not good.

I've driven from ATL morning of 10+ times by 5am, never again.  I-20 traffic is the least of your worries, it's once you're off I-20 on any of the 3+ exits is where you'll spend most of your time.  Either leave by 4am or stay local the night before.

4 am is spot on.  If you leave later you are going to get stuck in traffic once you get off the interstate in Augusta.

I read these comments every year but have never experienced it taking more than 20 minutes to get to the lot coming in on Washington Rd. Usually get off 20 around 7am.

Any comments on coming from the opposite way (Columbia, SC)?

 

Google maps says approximately 60-70 minutes, but I'm sure that can vary based on traffic.

I come in from Columbia so that may be the difference.

Atlanta is 150 miles from Augusta.  If you leave Atlanta at 7am you can't be in Augusta by 7am

Said he usually gets off the exit in Augusta at 7 am (and it takes 20 minutes to get to the parking lot form there). he didn't say he was leaving Atlanta at 7 am...

The OP was talking about leaving Atlanta at 7am, 150 miles away, of course the traffic in Augusta is going to be ok at that same time, but the OP can’t be there instantly.  All comments about bad traffic were based on leaving Atlanta at 7am

What time do the parking lots open? I'm coming from Aiken, SC should I budget about an hour with traffic to get there first thing in the morning?

Staying Sunday night in Covington, GA about 45 minutes East of Atlanta...planning to leave there for Augusta by 5:15 am.

 

Any concerns of this not having me on AGNC property in the 7:30-8:00am timeframe?

Just a f/u from my original post.

 

We got up at 4 and left at 5:10 from the west side of Atlanta, by Truist Park. Great area!!! This was Monday.

 

Stopped at McD's to pee and get some grub, rolled into ANGC at 7:20 with VERY little delays, like almost none. Parking was a breeze.

 

The best part of getting there at that time is you can hit the merch building and run your stuff out to your car before the course gets CRAZY busy. From 8:30 - 11:30 it was really manageable. At noon, it started becoming packed. We walked the entire track, ate and drank, sat in the Amen Corner stands for an hour and left about 3p. Legs were cooked!

 

A place like no other.
