Wedge fitting worth it off indoor surface?

Anyone had a wedge fitting at club champion or similar off a mat?  Or should I try and find a place outdoors? Thanks for suggestions.

You can get a pretty good estimation of what grind you need by hitting off a mat.  I think an indoor fitting is fine.  It's very hard to find a good outdoor fitting anyway

I only have experience with the Vokey wedge fitting software that works with trackman. It takes into account angle of attack, distance for gapping and the same questions that are on the "wedge selector" tool on the Vokey site about typical course conditions and bunker confidence. It seemed pretty accurate to me. I got a 15y gap between all of my wedges and the suggested bounce/grinds have worked well for me. It was off a mat, I think grass would be preferred but I was happy with the results of mine. Of course, your mileage may vary.

The Vokey Wedge matrix on trackman is prety darn good. Otherwise I wouldn't suggest it

Thanks guys. Any idea how to find out about the Vokey software? I assume most places would have it?

I agree with @getitdaily that grass is super important. Even more important are the conditions you mostly play on.  I think if you went into an indoor fitting knowing what type/bounce etc then that could be helpful.  

 

However, you can always go off looks, sound and feel indoors

Fitting days at your local club are always good days to try wedges.  Although..one brand at a time

The weather is getting warmer. If you're interested in Vokeys, look for a golf outlet that hosts Titleist Thursdays. Specify that you want a Vokey wedge fitting.

 

I did one pre-COVID, and it was an enlightening experience.
