What next for Ping in their irons?

Want to hear peoples thoughts on what they want to see next from Ping. I cant help but think they are trending towards a great iron that sits between the blueprint and the i230, both those categories of irons they have nailed. The i59 was good but cant help but think a modern S55 or a blueprint cb design would fill the void perfectly. Any thoughts or ideas on what is coming?

Seeing as the i59 is the latest iteration of the s55, it seems like that role is filled.

Doesn't the i525 sit in between the i59 and i230's. Didn't PING just come out with 4 new sets all within the last 4-6 months. It won't be anytime soon before PING releases any new models

I have to imagine, at some point, they'll release an S55/iBlade-sized iron with the same materials and tech as the i230. I'm hoping they go back to a cast like the i230 rather than the pseudo-forge with space materials, as seen in the i59. PING went against the mold for the i59 expecting it to be a hit, but I'm not sure that's been the case.

No idea, but then I live in the GI/SGI world. Are your ideas a club design looking for a market (given blueprint and i230 have nailed their market)?

Ping won't chase a market (think building a one off single length for Bryson won't result in a retail line for the masses).

i series iron players don't have a separate i series driver/fairway/hybrid line to play anymore. But then they are engineers, so they might surprise us.

I'm probably in the minority but I'd like to see an Eye 2 release with modern lofts and conforming but spinny modern grooves. That would be fun. EYE 23 anyone?

People have been asking for this for years. At some point, they have to do at least a limited release, probably 2032 during the 50th anniversary.

I agree and suggested that for 2022 which I think was the 40th anniversary. Like the Big Three retro designed mustang camero and challenger.

Im not sure about that. 525s seem to be extremely similar to i230 in size. Need an iron that truly fills the gap between i230 and g430.

Think of a ping Hot Metal Pro. 82-83mm heel to toe in the 7 iron. 3-4mm of offset.  That would be magnificent.

i525 has almost same forgiveness as g425 in the reviews I've watched (askgolfnut) but in a player shape.  Bigger than the i230 in sole width and blade length and hotter.  That's where the similarities end.  I have pics of them side by side.

Two things for Ping, First if they would incorporate the tungsten tip and screw weight as well as the added elastomer of the i230 into the iblade they would sell tons of them. In addition, If they could fix the sound/feel issue with i525 they would be one the best sellers. The clubs flat out perform, but feel and sound like the face is cracked when you hit them. If they could get the sound and feel to match the i230, p790, PXG, or Mizuno Pro 225 it would be a home run.

Ping has a great line up, something for almost every player type.  I would love to see a retro line done, they already own the molds for the USA cast models, I would love to see groove conforming ISI and Zing 2 re-release.

Not super effective at it but I try to be brand agnostic as I can. Ping, Callaway, Tour Edge are all American companies and all deliver. But so does Mizuno and many many other brands some of which I know well and have played and many that I haven't.

As it relates to Ping's current iron offerings my feeling is they have plenty of good options. When combined with all of their custom fitting options long term quality, recently outfitting DeChambeau (sp) for single length Pings. And multiple irons that look good to my useless eyetest. Some of their irons being high on playability scales some w/less MOI more workability etc.

What I think will help is if we better understand what features or playability factors are you specifically looking for @Swingtingz?

Yep, i525 is between i230 and G430, I have both. i525 has thicker sole & toe and a much, much louder crack than the i230. I was actually a bit surprised at how loud the i525 was compared to the i230.

that is total bs I found the i525 not that forgiving, the i230 are more forgiving and those aren’t as forgiving as g series

I wish the plate on the back of the i230 fit better. I don't like the gaps around the edges.

They are going to admit that the 59's didn't hit the mark and going to make a set of i210/230's with almost no offset and bevelled top line to appear to be slimmer.  This will then become the darling of wrx and live on in the songs passed down generation to generation of the day the people were finally heard.

I think it’s time for a special release of Ansers, Raptures or the like. The i525 are really great clubs but if Ping released something very Ping-like I’d be helpless.

every Ping engineer would strongly disagree with you.

Maltby has finished measuring the i230. The i525 and i230 are so close in MOI, c dimension, and vcog that without a doubt there is little between them except sound, looks, feel, and maybe more pop off the face. In fact the i525 has a higher cog, shorter c dimension, and less MOI but only by a hair.

I would love to see the heel to toe measurement of each. Without measuring I say the i230 is 79mm and the i525 80mm in the 7 iron.

Ping is missing out without a true iron between the i230/i525 and g430. They need a hot metal pro competitor.

People have said above that Ping wont chase a market, but all of the following are still in iblade or S55 which is interesting:

Corey conners, Matt Fitzpatrick, Austin cook, Austin Eckroat, Mackenzie Hughes, Stephan Jaeger, Matthias Schwab  Taylor Moore, Joaquín Niemann, Seamus Power, Sahith Theegala, Michael Thompson, Bubba Watson,  Thriston Lawrence, Adrian Meronk, Matthieu Pavon , Brandon Stone

Makes you think, as some people have said, that they haven't found a modern update to the S55 or Iblade yet that resonates with their tour staff, even the i59. They might not chase a market but i'm sure they will want their pros in a newer iron at some point. An iblade with the i230 tech would be amazing, I still think i230 is kinda chunky and too much offset
