Putter care.

Many of us have a closet full of putters that for me at least because they are carbon steel and will rust don't see the course. I have done some research of the benefits of such oils as wd40, silicone oils, gun oils. Scotty Cameron oil cloths which are overpriced. What do you guys do? I know about keeping the club head dry and clean. I personally treat with a drop of gun oil but I am reluctant to take these putters out.

I just use baby oil on my carbon newport. Have never had a problem with rusting and it never sees the course anymore. Headcover stays on except when doing some carpet putting because my toddlers are clumsy and I don't want the head getting scratched in the closet. if they go rummaging through.

I have an original TeI3 that I got in the early 2000's. I've been using the same SC Oil Cloth that came with it for that entire time. Don't know that I'd agree that it's "overpriced". $9 for something that has lasted me 20+ years seems like a good deal.

 

My routine is I simply make sure it's dry after the round, wipe it down with the oil cloth once I get home, and keep the headcover on it. No rust yet even after heavy use for this long.

Keep it dry and wipe it down with a lite oil after use.  The putter will be fine.  Take them out and enjoy them!

Silicone spray is best. WD40 will soften the paintfill.

I use these and have had zero issues.  Pretty sure this is exactly what a Cameron cloth is except at 5x the price.

Food grade silicone spray 

goes on dry and doesn’t pick up grit like baby oil does. Baby oil is way too “sticky”. 
 

eezox also goes on dry but can make paintfill fall out.

I use an oil called tsi 321.  It bonds with the metal creating a barrier.  I also use it on fishing reel bearings.  corrosion x works too.

David Mills told me to use a coating of Johnson Paste Wax on my TPMs. Has worked well for several years.

Putter Butter before rounds Silicone rag in storage. The layer of silicone I can see and reapply when needed.
