Cleveland smh...

Please explain where the labor doubles.

They'll butt trim and prep shaft (they do that either way)

Install grip (they do this either way)

Place on sw scale and either grab a slightly heavier head or tip weight (won't do this either way, but maybe would take a minute?)

Epoxy (do this either way)

Swing weighting in a factory made for building clubs isn't some crazy ordeal. And if they don't have procedures in place to offer this and/or make it efficient, that's just plan odd for a company like Cleveland.

And the only upcharge being $10. Yes, a $12 grip for $10 when I purchase a $180 wedge. They set the price not me. Let's not pretend they are some super pro consumer company because of this. Sure, it can come standard with a tour issue s400, but again, they choose to offer that as free, not me. And frankly, it's pretty clear why. They're heads are less desirable/less popular. It's their way of enticing people to go with them over another brand. They simply couldn't get away with charging $30 or whatever for a shaft and having their price be the same as a vokey for example. That's a business decision they made.

So yes, I will pass on buying and then paying someone to fix (would make the cost the same as just buying the glides or anything else), or fixing myself. It's much easier to pay $30 for the shaft, have them show up ready to go, then enjoy golf.

Do you not find it ironic that they advertise about how they use tour issue stuff (tight tolerances), from a different brand, but don't hold themselves to the same standard?

The more variances in a production process, the greater cost to the company. Now multiply it over thousands of clubs. Easy to spend other peoples money. The less desirable/less popular comment is interesting, in that, you desired them, at least prior to this posting.

To my knowledge Ping does not sell directly online to consumers, you have to go thru a authorized Ping dealer. I found golf Galaxy online selling Ping Glide 4.0 wedges ($170 MSRP) (original post mentioned Ping) and priced out your build, $204, and no option to pick a build to a particular swing weight option in the boxes. It may be possible to call Golf Galaxy, ask if the order can go in with a swing weight request and add it to the comment box. Interesting Ping can get away with charging $34 more for a different shaft and grip.

You mention Vokey. I priced SM9 at Titliest.com, with your desired shaft/grip, $226, ($46 more) with no box for swing weight choice, but lets assume one calls and they'll say, add to the comment/remark box in the order.

There is nothing in a Ping/Vokey online order where they give you a box or pull down to select a swing weight at no additional cost.

My main point, you can't get Ping or Vokey for the same price as a Cleveland, not an apple to apple comparison.

In whichever new wedges you buy, I hope they play well in the 2023 golf season.

I mean this is just flat out wrong though. If you are going to offer length adjustments, shaft options, and grip options, you HAVE to be ready to adjust swing weight as a result. If you just slap components together anyone who chooses said options can change the swing weight drastically. Their configurator let's you add +2" to a wedge. That's about 12 swing weight points of change. So that person instead of receiving a d5 lob wedge, they'll receive a c3. I would guess about 99% of golfers would not play well with a c3 lw. It's not catering to the 5%s needs, it's not building your clubs in a way that's setting the consumer up to fail. I'm just in the 5% that understands this is important, but they should be doing this on every build unless otherwise requested by the customer.

Wouldn't +2" be the other way in the swing weight scale....like D5 to E7.

Did you customize anything about the build? I picked the shaft and grips, and couldn't resist the lettering (first set of ordered wedges).

Custom shaft and heel grind on the 60. I didn’t do any stamping or paint full.

I'd email them.  Mine took a little over a week.  I also didn't get a notice so I emailed and they sent a club out that day with a tracking number.  The next day I got the original club and ended up sending the replacement back to them once it arrived.

Sorry for delayed response, spent a long weekend at the Ozarks.

@bekgolf lol makes sense, I thought you were using the word "contract" to insinuate that me wanting a specific SW was some crazy ask.

@JMB3 I am sure ping isn't perfect, but every time I've ever specified what I wanted in an order it's always come there. I'll probably double check them when they arrive though either way.

@Milfordlefty Yes, there is no place on GG to add a swing request for a ping or a Titleist, but you can have it requested and they'll do it. I've done it with both companies before. (BTW don't order from GG, if you didn't know they add on extra $ for shafts and grips over what the manufacturer wants. S400 ti added to a glide 4.0 from Carl's is $33, from GG is $45. Grip I wanted on Carl's was $8, from GG it was $14. This was a per club difference. Not sure why they do this.) But anyways, just because I was going to order an rtx6, doesn't mean this was the most desirable wedge to me. I am not against trying new things, and when I heard I could get my build for $30ish less per club, I thought why not try them out. Can always move away from them next year if I hated them. Just like I explained, I picked them because of the shaft offerings they had for free. It was nothing about the head that sold me. I would argue the glide and vokeys are the opposite. People choose those wedges for the head, and if they are wrxers and want a different shaft modify the wedge from there. But don't forget that the extra $ they charge for the shaft is for the shaft only. If I ordered a stock wedge but just wanted a higher or lower sw, they'd do that for "free".

@jrg75 Yes that is my bad. I remember meaning to type +/- 2" but I just checked and that's not even right. It's +2 or -1". So sw has the potential to be 12 sw heavy or 6 sw light with a standard weight head thrown on various shaft lengths they offer. This seems to me to be a big variance to make up solely through head weight variance.

I ordered a set of wedges last month and they took 7 business days to ship.  If you're ordering custom shafts that they need to order they won't tell you unless you ask.  That could be your hold up.

I once called cleveland to see what the lie angle was of a 5w.  The lady on the line said 18*. I said no, the lie angle not loft.  And she was like 18*. I hung up shaking my head.

After having a high-end custom fit, I just went through this same buying decision and swing weight request with Titleist.

- Titleist doesn’t build to a requested swing weight with their regular build program (not sure about vokey custom shop)

- You can give them your full build specs and they will tell you within 1-2 points the SW to expect

- Titleist online chat was very helpful and responsive

- I thought I needed my irons 2-3 pts heavier

- The build on a full set of irons and wedges was great!! Matched what they said and very consistent thru each club in the bag

- Swing weight was very important to me as if not suited, ruins the set basically for me.

When buying I eventually boiled my options down to:

(1) pay the $$$ and get a custom build and requested SW. It was going to add ~35% and still need to manage that relationship

(2) order from Titleist and buy a roll of lead tape and do final tuning myself on the range to get it exactly how I want it

I went with option #2 and I am very happy. Titleist build on my set spot on consistent. Haven’t needed lead tape and don’t think I will.

Good luck!
