Will John Daly make the USA Ryder Cup team?

Do you guys think Big John will make the 2006 Ryder Cup team?

Unfortunately, I don't think JD will make the team. I don't think he is consistent enough to make the team via points and there are many other people that could make team better. I do like JD, so it would be great to see him have a good year and qualify for the team.

I agree with you that he does not make the team.

It is very unfortunate that he probably won't, he is as good as anyone else if his game is together.

If the nation could vote he would make it, but like you stated , he will more than likely not make it via the points and i don't think anyone will take him as a captains pick, you just don't know what you would be getting with him.

I truly hope I am wrong!

As a European, I would love to see Daly make the team. Not from a "I think he'll lose point", but rather from a "it would be good for the game point".

Daly would be awesome in the fourballs, especially if you paired him with the right person. Someone dead consistent and boring. Daly makes a stack of birdies on top of him. I'd reckon he'd probably not play the foursomes, but singles, who knows. All these guys can post a score and he's as likely to win as any of them. If I were US captain, I'd pick him in a heartbeat.

The thing about John Daly is he could get on a roll at any time and win a tournament or two. The question in my mind is mentally if he's in contention can he "Close The Deal". After all he a chance at WGC event at Harding Park and he just more or less gave it away. You have to wonder how important is WINNING to John Daly. He may be guy thats happy raking in a couple a million a year in prize and sponsership money and if he wins he's O.K. but I just don't see the "Fire In The Belly" for him in terms of intensity.

I don't think anyone can get as far as he has without having that competitiveness. Also, he's been through the suffering playing on the lower tours and making the freak win. 95 Open was different though. He won that hands down and played his nuts off in the playoff. Didn't even seem shaken by Rocca's putt.

He has to play and (irresistible this) he can't do much worse than the last team. :dntknw:

I would love to see him play in it but unfortunately I don't think he will. Misses too many cuts and isn't consistant enough to qualify. I also think there would be a lot of people who Lehman would pick ahead of Daly.

he would be a great partner.. so what if he loses a singles match.. but for 4 ball and alternate shot.. perfect.

I personally will be disappointed if he isn't a captains pick.. it would be great for tv and it might even get some IRISH cheers during the matches...

i don't think he will, but can you imagine how many more people would watch the ryder cup??? from both sides of the pond... i think he'd be more of an asset to the team rather than anything... and i think they asked some players if they'd want to play with them and i believe all of them said hell yea, why not... i think david toms said he wanted to play alternate shot with him... i hope he makes it

He won't make it, and that is another advantage handed to Europe. The last few Ryder Cups have shown that it is inspiration rather than recent form, which matters.

Despite all their consistency, European players are less fearful of Jim Furyk or Chris di Marco than they would be of Long John. I think he would also be inspired by playing in Ireland. Its the US's loss.

I think it's crazy to think the European players would rather play against Furyk or DiMarco over Big John. What's JD's world ranking? Jim Furyk is ranked 7th and Chris DiMarco is 10th. John Daly is ranked 29th. Let's be honest, who would you rather play?

Point is that Daly on song is a match for just about anyone. Furyk and DiMarco even if they have a good day are still beatable. If Daly has a bad day, you'll wipe the floor with him and that means there is pressure on you to win the point.

I honestly reckon that under those conditions Daly is a scarier proposition than either of those two. Daly would be well up for it. Having said that, Di Marco hasn't won anything all year and is ranked 10 in the world. WTF is that all about?

I'm glad we have been able to keep this discussion civil, too many times they can turn heated.

I just don't know where all of this John Daly intimidation factor has come from. What has he done lately? Nice missed 1.5 footer in San Fran!

DiMarco is such a steady player. He is great at match play, 2nd place this year to Davind Toms, who hit it better than God can!

Furyk, a good win after surgery. US OPEN champ, great performance at he President's Cup.

Time will tell.
