Question About Iron Length

I'm fitting myself for a set of blades. They came with the 5-iron being 38" length. I'm wondering if this is too long of length for me particularly for a more traditional style club. I'm 5'8" tall and my wrist to floor measurement is 34.25" in both arms. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i believe that is std. length for a 5 iron so that should tell you something...then u can go from there

Standard depends upon the manufacturer. Example, Callaway 5 iron is 38, Mizuno is 37.75.

 

I'm about the same height as you and I've been playing Mizuno for a while. The 37.75 5 iron feels much better then the 38. I will stick with the 37.75 in any set moving forward.

I believe it's withing standard limits but there are benefits with both shorter and longer shafts: longer provides for longer shots but more difficult to hit clean, while shorter shafts provides more stability and cleaner contact. The end result might be different or the same depending on your swing. But I suggest you stick with what you got and adjust to proer lie angle. If you still think you need to improve contact you can cut down the shafts and make the lie angle more upright at a later stage.
