Counterfeit Stealth 2 - 3 Wood

Is anyone aware of fake Stealth 2 3 woods floating around? I purchased one online and Taylormade was unable to verify the Serial number.

My local dealer called and verified others, so I am concerned. Please let me know your thoughts.

Other than the serial number issue, do you have any other clues that it might be counterfeit? 

 

I always assume that counterfeiters are lazy and motivated by pure greed. They want to make as few products as possible while selling as many as possible without being caught. 

 

With that in mind, it seems like fake drivers would be *way* more common than fake fairway woods.

 

Think about it. The production cost is about the same but the price point is higher. More people replace their driver every season compared to their fairway woods. And most people will fit into a 9 or 10.5 degree head so you don't have to offer a ton of options to make your sales. 

 

If I was going to make fake golf clubs I wouldn't make three woods. The only argument to do so in this case would come down to the face. Maybe the Stealth driver face is just too hard to convincingly fake. Heck, maybe that's why TM went to it in the first place?

Lazada is the most common online site for purchases in Asia. It is full of snide golf clubs (and everything else), Taylormade, Vokey, Scotty etc. You name it and its on there.

Taylormade almost never verifies serial numbers over the phone.

I was at my local Taylormade dealer. We called twice, once with a stock unit (which they confirmed) once with the club I bought - No visibility in their system.

If everything else is good… it’s legit 

 

if the head was fake you would tell pretty easily from my experience
