Titleist TSR2 vs Ping G425 Max

Recommended Posts

I played 425 Max all last year and demoed TSR2 this year. Very much enjoyed it, got slightly quicker ball speeds from TSR2 (could have been warm up bias to be fair). Sounds way better, will likely feel a decent bit lighter. Dispersion was good in my limited swings with it, that's what I'd be looking at most comparing the two.

Feel like my 425 is very forgiving on off center hits, how do they compare in that regard in your experience?

Also forgiving when off center, it seemed to want to stay straight like the 425 Max.

💯! All things considered, performance is very similar. Sound, not even close IMO. Made it easy to pick Titleist.

The TSR2 sounds miles better. The TSR2 had the highest ball speeds for me when I got fit. (We hit just about everything).

I ended up with a G430 because the dispersion was just a bit better. But I would have been happy with the TS2.  The G430 and G425 are reportedly in the same neighborhood for forgiveness.  The G430 sounds MUCH better though.

I tested them both fairly extensively. Ping G425 is a heavier head, so it's usually sold with a shorter shaft. You'll probably swing it a bit slower and have slightly better strike due to the shorter length (unless you go with the Alta CB shaft which is longer). I also feel like it's a higher spinning head. So shorter shaft + heavier head + more spin = more forgiveness in general.

TSR2 stock length is 45.5 and the head is lighter then the ping. Also I feel like they've done some black magic with the materials on the head because I swear to god the efficiency all across the face was amazing. VERY hot face. Ball goes far.

Overall if you want max fairways go for G425... if you want what I consider to be a better driver that goes further and is still quite forgiving because you can hit it all over the face go for the TSR2

Well I cant speak for the Ping but I picked up a TSR2 head to replace my TSi3 head and its night and day - incredibly stable, for sure longer and sounds better too. I think if more people tested the TSr2 head they would be very impressed. No sacrifice on distance for the stability either,

Played both extensively. Sound doesn’t matter because the Ping with melt sounds just fine. I also played them both at same headweight and same playing loft. The Tsr2 is a bit faster and will launch lower and spin less. Forgiveness and playability is a wash.

You're missing 3-5mph of ball speed on the 425 compared to TSR2, but forgiveness is very close on both... as literally everyone else has already beat to death, if sound is a huge determining factor for you, that puts the TSR in a clear winner's spot.

I've done the same move, I've found pull-hooks and push-slices have now straightened out with the TSR meaning there's 8-10 yards less of a 'miss' on bad drives compared to TSi3.

The TSR2 has higher ballspeed for me, better sound and better looks. It’s plenty forgiving to me, but maybe slightly less so than 425max.

Yep that is a great way of putting it, just less bad misses and some shots not in the middle are for sure going further. I didnt need the extra 5 yards from a TSR3 head or suchlike, I wanted good speed and the forgiveness as the TSi3 just felt like it was punishing me. I have always played Titleist though, I just dont like the look at feel of anything else so it comes down to that. I know Ping have always made the most stable heads but the TSR2 is surely up there now and plenty long

Buddy of mine owed me a driver/fitting (long story) and I went to the shop yesterday.  I've played the G425 the last 3 seasons and wanted to try something new.  Ended up ordering the TSR2 with an Accra TZ5 shaft as the G425 with the stock Alta CB shaft spun a bit too much.  That said, the G425 is a fairway finder and the sound annoys the s#!t out of my playing partners so I'll keep it as a backup

I’m looking to try tsr2 vs g430 in my fitting on Wednesday. I want to keep my sim max distance but not the dispersion.

I think the TSR2 is more comparable to the LST model. I have a TSR2 9* and it spins so low it only works for me if I hit a fade.

I almost pulled the trigger on a TSR2 (super nice club, comes in an 8* and get the tensei 1k black at no upcharge). Then I was playing a day later with my ping and really put a bad swing on it nearly missed the face I was all the way out on the toe, the ball hooked right back into the dead center of the fairway with only losing about 20 yards of normal distance. From that point I had a new appreciation for my aluminum driver and I am more than happy being in play.

I just got fit for g430 Vs tsr2. You can’t go wrong with either, it came down to looks in the end for me, the ping carried marginally further but total amount was the same.
